Although has a problem with political assassinations.
It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter one lick. This kind of behavior is disgusting done to every woman on earth, president or the lowest of the low on the social ladder, sex workers or beggars or the homeless, whoever. It’s always the same crime.
If this leads to an increased awareness of how common this sort of behavior is (regardless of who the victim is), and a decreased tolerance of it, that’d be a good thing, at least.
I’m pretty sure nobody in here is arguing the opposite?
The post I was responding to seemed to assume that the victim’s status made a difference.
The post you were responding to literally opened with:
Yeah, everybody can state a disclaimer first and then say, haha, the poor guy picked a president for his groping without knowing it and will only realize when he’s sober. ![]()
There have been a couple of earlier posts in this thread which seemed to assume that. It’s possible that they only meant that it’ll make a difference to the publicity. I certainly hope that’s what they meant.
(And it shouldn’t make a difference to the publicity; but of course it does.)
Yes, and? What is remotely objectionable about speculating about that?
It also shouldn’t make a difference to the legal consequences, but probably does. Most gropers never get caught at all.
Laughing about it in “men areas”? What men? Please don’t group all men into the same category. There exists a toxic subculture, yes, but I’d like to believe that – especially today – it’s very much a minority. A minority that happens to include the current president of the United States, but neither intelligence nor ethics has ever been his strong suit. In any case, this sort of attitude sure as hell isn’t universal among males! Believing that it is, is really a form of misandry.
This reminds me that Mexican presidents are limited to one six-year term. There are some you’d like to see have at least two.
As for the asshole in question and attitudes at large, it always seems to be one step up and two steps back.
Because it sounds like sexually assaulting a president is a much bigger crime than assaulting anybody else.

I’d like to believe that it’s a minority, but I’m far from convinced of that.

Only if you ignore the part where he said that it wasn’t.
I suspect there is a significant difference between the range and prevalence of attitudes on this topic among Mexican men and American men. Likewise different expectations and attitudes between Mexican and American women.
We do not yet have a single worldwide culture even if we do have a lot of media crosstalk between cultures.
I wouldn’t say “bigger” crime, but it certainly will bring much more scrutiny and less likelihood of getting away with it. President of a nation is as high-profile a victim as it gets.
Of course, @wolfpup not all men or all men inhabited areas.
But even the nice guy in the men’s locker room who tolerates the joking that happens about most(not all) women, is complicit.
We as woman don’t even know the extent it goes on. But I’ll bet a couple dollars it’s worse than reported.
I’ll cop to a touch of misandry. Not toxic. But I have young women in my house who I hear from and worry about.
But even the nice guy in the men’s locker room who tolerates the joking that happens about most(not all) women, is complicit.
This is true. There are the men who would joke about things like this in the locker room, and there are those who would tell them to knock it off because sexual assault isn’t funny, but there are also those who don’t personally think it’s funny and who wouldn’t personally joke about it, but who also wouldn’t speak up about it. As well as many other possible positions (those who don’t actually think it’s funny but share the jokes anyway because that’s how they think they’re supposed to fit in, those who don’t respond to the jokes because they were never paying attention in the first place, those who won’t restrict their jokes to the locker room and proudly proclaim their misogyny to the world, etc.).
Happy B-Day! ![]()
