This video just makes me physically ill.
I would not have been able to maintain my composure.
I’m surprised members of the public could get that close to her. Where was her security detail?
Her response seemed like one of a woman who has been though this many many many times before. She was ultimately gentle in her response, because I’m sure that is what she has had to do many many many times before.
And I wonder if in the back of her mind she thought “I am president and I cannot punch a man while cameras are rolling.”
I read that she regularly gets out among the people like that. I hope she does not have the same fate as that Swedish PM (Olof Palme).
On the positive side, altho sorry she had to go thru it, the video of this incident shows clearly what millions of women around the world have to endure regularly, so anyone brushing this shit aside as “boys will be boys” or “she was asking for it” or “he didn’t mean anything” can go fuck right off!
The US-style extreme security cordon is totally not how the rest of the world treats their senior politicians.
A bodyguard or two standing somewhere sorta nearby is by far the norm. Not an armored convoy of a dozen vehicles and 200 armed soldiers in civvies protected by auto-cannon hidden inside SUVs, snipers on every roof, and helicopters overhead.
I don’t think any standing Mexican President has ever been assassinated either, which probably explains why they don’t go so hard core on presidential protection.
(Edited to add: standing president. I think a candidate was offed on the campaign trail once and another after his presidency.)
And really.. I can’t say I’ve ever been so drunk that I thought that assaulting someone like a head of state would be a good idea, or that I was unaware that their security detail would likely beat the beejezus out of me if I so much as got too close.
Then again, I haven’t been so drunk that I’ve ever groped anyone without consent either. That guy’s just a colossal, entitled asshole who thought he was just fine with groping her, because she’s a woman, and that somehow in his mind trumped her being the President of Mexico.
Another way to look at it was that was the single most insulting thing he could think to do to the President.
In other countries malcontents throw a shoe or a cream pie.
Still shitty behavior, but culturally common shitty behavior
You’d think they’d offer better protection, seeing how often politicians on the local level are victims of violence.

If the security detail was so low-key, is it possible he was so drunk he didn’t realize who she was?
No.
[discourse]
It shouldn’t even matter. If the general reaction to any woman being unwittingly groped were outrage, we’d all be a lot better off.
Damn. Barely 10 posts before the “He was so drunk he didn’t know what we was doing” excuse.
I posted about this incident in the Evil MFers Omnibus Thread. Absolutely disgusting.
Not excusing, it’s contemptible behavior no matter who the victim is. Obviously he knew what he was doing, but it’s funny to imagine he might not have realized who he was doing it to, and the look on his face when he wakes up in jail and has the situation explained to him.
This is the culture Trump crudely expounded on in the TMZ video.
It’s ingrained in some men that’s it’s just ok to paw at, grope and push in on women.
Simply because they could and felt it their right.
Will it ever stop?
True. Not every shitfaced-drunk sexually-assaulting asshole is subsequently confronted with the realization that they are now a globally reviled sexually-assaulting asshole who will forever be primarily known for this asshole behavior. (Unless he ups his ante in the future by actually assassinating somebody or something, I suppose.)
Actually it reminded me more of the Spanish soccer president that kissed a player on the lips.
Are you sure he’ll be globally “reviled”.
I’d like to be a fly on a wall in primarily men areas. I bet the jokes are a’plenty.
