I hope he spends every waking hour putting the boot to trump’s campaign throat, saying what needs to be said, loud and often, in places where the ‘right’ people will hear.
Seems he’s putting his money where his mouth is: since he can’t win, he’s doing the one thing that may help Haley, by dropping out.
I’m watching his “drop-out” speech on CNN right now. He’s quite a speaker; I don’t think I have ever listened to him give an entire speech before.
The upshot is that he’s dropping out for the good of the party. Running through it all is a theme of, “Trump is unfit to be President and will destroy this country if he is re-elected, so I am going to do my part to lessen the divisiveness in the Republican party by dropping out.” At one point, he compared Trump to Voldemort, in the Harry Potter books: “He Who Shall Not Be Named, lest he magically appear and wreak havoc.” But Christie is not endorsing anybody with this speech.
I hope he sticks around as a commentator on events. He would probably be a reasonable voice, and worth listening to, even if you disagree with him.
He said of his primary opponents that if you are unable to say that Trump is unfit for office, then you are unfit for office.
I’ve never been terribly fond of Christie since the Bridgegate scandal, but I do appreciate his speech today. He really does seem to understand what a threat to democracy trump is.
Good on him.
nm i say
Same here. Christie worked with Trump during the transition after the 2016 election. He knows how unstable Trump can be.
Christie was never a very exciting candidate. But at least he spoke out about Trump.
Emphasis mine. Yeah, he can say all the negative stuff about Trump on “The MSM”, but few voting in the Republican primaries watch “The MSM”. Hopefully, he’ll take his message on Fox News, OAN, and other conservative outlets, where there are more viewers that may not like what he has to say, but may listen anyway (and NEED to heard it), and vote accordingly. Hopefully.
I doubt he did it to help Haley – he got caught on a hot mike saying that she’s going to get “smoked” and that “she’s not up to this.”
John Kasich was on MSNBC this evening and his take was that Christie’s PAC likely told him the donors were pulling the funding plug since he had no chance, and it would be best if he dropped out rather than be blamed for any chance a non-Trump candidate had going up in smoke.
He also didn’t give too much weight to the hot mic bit. He said Christie was probably disappointed and pissed, and it was likely just a vent directed at a surviving opponent.
I personally would not be surprised to see Christie stumping for Haley.
If those outlets let him on.
The guy who hugged Obama? Why would they give him any air time?
Chris Christie Drops Out of Race
Never mind, i see I’m late to the party.
I updated the title.
Well, Christie’s not going to be VP, so why not burn that gold-plated bridge as a talking head on CNN?
When asked about Christie’s becoming VP, ““Well, I’ve already started to like Christie better,” Trump said, adding, however, that “I don’t see it” with regard to having him as his vice president.”
I bet it’ll be Pence. He has experience.
Pence has no staying power. He literally couldn’t hang.
In his speech, Christie also acknowledged/confessed his role with regard to enabling Trump back in 2016. He said he thought he could help make him a better President. That, of course, didn’t exactly pan out. Nor, in my view does it completely absolve him of his sins.
Despite the January 6 insurrectionists’ best efforts.
Gallows humor.
