So I got a Mac Mini for Christmas. I also got a copy of iLife 06. On it is iWeb, a mind-bogglingly simple web publishing program.
It’s a limited program, for sure. But it got me off my but to do a project I’ve been meaning to do for years- put up the webjournal I wrote in India and illustrate it with pictures. I’m pretty happy with the results, although there is still a lot of editing and tweaking to do.
In the future I’m going to put up pictures from a few other trips I’ve taken (Europe, Guatemala, Mexico, London), a daily photo blog of Oakland, and some various art and video projects.
Your navigation buttons disappear when the page loads… You can still navigate by hovering over where the buttons were. It’s gonna be a nice series of sites!
I used iWeb. It’s one of their standard templates and I can’t take any credit for it. It’s gonna look just like everyone elses, but in the end I’m not really worried about that. Thats what it took to actually get the project i’ve been putting off for two years finally done.
It’s very strange. While the site is loading, I can see all the pics, background, it looks great! Then as soon as the page totally loads (Staus bar says “Done”), all the pics and graphics go away. I can still still see the text, no pics. On the main page, I can still see the “watermark” background, but the ticket stub/passport stuff all goes away as well.
Should be an easy de-bug, and this old rig runs IE5, so I’m not in the best position to troubleshoot. I am looking forward to seeing the pics!
even sven - love your travel site and realize it’s in its infancy. Good work and a remarkable journey that you described so well.
My friend Mary, a San Francisco jewelry designer/maker/seller recently went to India, primarily to see the Pushkar Camel Festival. She’s in the process of creating a website with her pics, taken in October/November, 2005.
She’s highly dyslexic and doubt that she can add a journal so her pix will suffice. She’s most interested in textiles and color as well as the faces of everyday citizens. I think her pix display this.
The first few involve baggage (!) but as you progress through them you’ll see the textile art that she captured.
Your ‘e-mail me’ function blocks everyone outside of your address book. This may be intentional, but is the reason why I’m responding through the Dope rather than through your website.
After the other India thread, and reading your page, I’ve decided to go myself. So now I’m deciding whether I want to go in May, in the heat but with fewer other tourists around, or in December in the cool but have to compete for decent hotel rooms, etc.
Cool, I’m really glad you weant through with your India trip. Are you still in Santa Cruz, or have you found somewhere a little cheaper to live? How are your job prospects?
