In what might be the final installment of a tense yet exciting ordeal, I got a call last week confirming that I have in fact made it to the third ‘stage’ of the hiring process for my dream job. The first stage was a group interview, the second stage was an hour-long 1 on 1 interview with the recruiter, and this final interview will be with the VP of the West Coast division of the company.
I am a little nervous. One one hand, I am confident I can get hired- this is the third step, and everyone up until now stated that the VP has the ‘final word’ on hires, making me feel like I did a satisfactory job with the previous interviewers. Maybe the recruits that make it this far are generally hired; the process is only to give them a ‘once over’ to make sure they didn’t miss anything. Then again, this could be the most crucial part of the process, where they separate the wheat from the chaff. The first two stages were equally challenging in their own way, so it is difficult for me to predict how this interview will turn out.
Despite the anxiety, the whole process has been a wonderful experience for me. If I do get the job (I’ll know this week) it will be a very big accomplishment and a wonderful career opportunity in the long run.
