I made my glasses disappear

I blame Harry Potter. I went to sleep last night with HP: Goblet of Fire playing on my computer and as such I needed my glasses to see more than just a fuzzy blur with sound. It didn’t take long before I was out and apparently HP decided he liked my glasses.

I’ve fallen asleep in my glasses before, usually I wake up with them on but tilted, or sometimes on the bed next to me. Well this time it has completely disappeared. I mean truly.

Thankfully I’m not blind without them, but I just don’t like to drive, and I can’t see clearly more than five feet away or so, it just gets progressively fuzzier. Hell, I could drive, I just can’t read street names at any distance.

But nevermind my eyes, we’re talking about my glasses. I pulled off the sheets and pillows, I’ve dug through the mattress and pulled up the bed. I even got UNDER the bed, which for someone of my size, is quite a feat. I had a moment of panic while under the bed, visualizing somehow getting trapped down there, but that moment passed pretty quickly.

So how about you? Do you guys own disappearing glasses?

My glasses have disappeared on occasion. I hate it when that happens, becuase I can’t see five feet in front of my face. Even fairly close up things are fairly blurry. So when they do vanish, I have to fight down feelings of panic until I locate them.

Did you check under the computer desk, chair, etc?

I have rimless glasses, which are great for my nose, as they don’t weigh enough to cause soreness. However, if they are ever not where I put them, they are virtually invisible.

One of my cats (RIP Pooch) had a habit of stealing anything shiny - and once made off with my glasses whilst I was asleep. I spent a fair bit of time searching, constantly fearful that whereever I stood or sat, I would hear that telltale crunch…

Inside the pillowcase, or wedged between the wall and the bed is my guess…

Yes, the room got torn apart as I looked. I was 90% sure they fell in the vicinity of the bed, and I was quite sure that they would be in the corner near where I fell asleep, however I had looked everywhere so I was quite quite confused.

Finally I was certain I must have missed something, so I started all over again. I checked every pillow and case, then the sheets then the mattresses and then the skirt that hangs around part of the bed. Sure enough, it had snagged in the skirting.

So I have my glasses back - thankfully!

Damn Harry Potter.

You don’t have a dog, do you?

One of my dogs is a thief. She steals various items from around the house and stashes them in her hiding places. Glasses, the remote, socks, . . . once, she even stole a tape measure for reasons I can only speculate.

I lose my glasses off the nightstand every now and then (I tend to flail in my sleep). My uncorrected vision is worse than 20/200* so I often have to call for help to find them. It’s got even worse to find them since I switched to dark wire-rims.

*When the optometrist takes my glasses off for a baseline check, I can “read” the first line on the eyechart, “E”. It’s always “E”. I really can’t see it at all.

If I lose my glasses, I have to yell for Mr. Neville to help me find them. I can see clearly for about three feet without them.

If I have to take off my glasses somewhere other than at home (at the eye doctor, hairdresser, etc), I make a point to remember where I put them, because I won’t be able to find them if I don’t (and I’m embarrassed to ask a stranger for help finding them). I also avoid taking off my glasses whenever I can, just because I’m so blind without them.

Ah, this is why I’m glad I got the 3 for 1 deal on the last set of glasses! I actually haven’t lost them, and I can see reasonably well without glasses (though I couldn’t legally drive, I could manage an emergency daytime drive, say, to get them repaired!) but it’s always good to know I have backups! The second pair is the same script, just a different frame (fun to change looks once in a while) and the third pair are sunglasses, but they aren’t too dark, so I could go a day with them (but driving at night would be pretty much impossible).

Besides, I still have my old pair lying around somewhere. Always good to have a plan!

I Made My Glasses Disappear. Great title.

I watched a dancer at the Petersburg(VA) fair make my buddies glasses disappear in 1963. But when she blew smoke rings…whoa, Nellie!

Before I had Radial Keratotomy, I used to be extemely nearsighted. One day, I dropped my brown-framed glasses on a chocolate colored rug. I had to call my husband to come home from work to help me find them.

I’m glad the OP found the glasses. Now let’s have a game of “find Celyn’s glasses”. Yep, they have vanished and of course, it is very hard to LOOK for glasses without actually having the glasses on, if you see what I mean.

Boo hoo, sob sob. :(

They are in one of two places.

  1. Exactly where you left them. or
  2. Where you least expect to find them.
    Q. Did you look on your forehead?
