I may actually go insane with anger

I never said I wasn’t racist. Despite trying not to be I probably am pretty goddamn racist. But I’m working on it. I think it was my father’s fault.

Can we call the thread totally and completely hijacked now?

Dude, there’s no secret. If you have a problem with it, if you can’t control yourself, take an anger management class. Tell us where you live and I’ll find a class in your community for you.

Ducati, looks like dorkness has this all sussed. Maybe you should PM him for follow-up…

Emotional control isn’t ‘dorky’. Rage isn’t manly.
The move “To Kill A Mockingbird” is my cite.

Again, this is a secret in the way that “put a period at the end of a sentence” is a secret. If you haven’t figured it out, that says everything about you and nothing about me.

I may go insane with insanity… LHoD, HELP ME!!1!

OK Capt obvious, I agree 100%

Now can you offer any constructive advice on how to deal with it, or did I detect a hint of cynicism instilled by those anger management classes?

More advice than I can possibly type. A good first step would be an Anger Management class, and if there is a mood issue related to anxiety or depression, cognitive therapy and/or a medication evaluation would be great first steps. Some of my students dropped the classes after starting antidepressants, saying the meds had essentially cured their anger and irritability problems. The total idiots guides and ‘for dummies’ both, I believe, have anger management books in the series, although I’ve not vetted them personally (I wrote my own curriculum).
The most important first step is to change your self talk about anger from a passive, “It made me angry” construction to “I upset myself about” construction. You can’t “manage” a problem you that you won’t own. That’s where a group helps, because you get to see all of the other group members telling stories about getting agitated over things that wouldn’t bother you, and eventually a lightbulb goes off, with any luck, and you realize the things you are triggered by aren’t universal. Also, if alcohol seems to be a co-factor, you gotta get sober.
I focused on trying to help my students not get upset in the first place, because once the ‘fight/flight’ process starts, we all get stupid.
I hope you live somewhere with some good resources to help with this.

Well thanks for that Truman! That’s a real breath of fresh air, and I do mean that. That certainly is a “possibly” related issue here, and even if it is, that one aspect is nowhere near as simple as some might suggest.

Regardless of whether or not the OP actually has anger issues (only his family and friends can really know for sure - it doesn’t sound like it to me, just a possible complicating factor) and in case some of you got confused by the volume and intensity of innuendo and speculation thus far, let’s just review a few of the facts regarding this topic:

  1. Through no fault of his own, OP’s dog gets out and run over by careless driver who flees the scene.

  2. Bullshit ensues.

  3. SDMB posters spend 10 pages demonzing OP.

  4. Thread devolves into a debate about the hot-button race sub-topic with associated ad-hominem attacks proceeding apace.

Looks pretty typical to me. So what if all the plethora of more or less related “facts” were not initially presented? The OP had every right to be angry, upset and not comprehensively all-encompassing with his post. Would it hurt you to ask a question? Who wouldn’t try to find the person who just ran over their dog? Who was the the total asshole here who started the chain of events? It wasn’t the lansdscapers who left the gate open, and it was not the OP.

Is there any imaginable topic that won’t be used for a springboard to rant about pet PREJUDICES, be it guns, race, cops, security cameras, whatever?

Sheesh. Some of you people are total douchebags.

No off you go to disagree with yourselves vigorously!

ducati, of course. Dog owners are ultimately responsible for their animals’ behavior in all circumstances.

I wouldn’t, particularly not if my dog wasn’t even actually run over. But even if the dog had been injured or killed, I don’t see what good it would do to go chasing after the driver. If I believed a crime had been committed then I’d call the police, but I’m pretty sure it’s not against the law to hit a dog that runs out in front of your car.

No, it was the OP. It was his dog that was running loose, and he’s the one who decided to play vigilante rather than being happy that his dog was fine after a frightening near miss. The driver of the car just happened to have the bad luck to be coming down the street at the time the dog got out and, once again, didn’t even hit the dog.

Well, in all honesty, I don’t think people use creed as a term of insult very often. They can use it to demonise an opponent (Obama is a Muslim!). In fact, the only time I see religion being used to refer exaggeratedly to character is in the example I gave (in a tone deaf manner, I guess).

Perhaps, if he’s a freedom fighter in the state of Libria.

I’m not sure where the troll factory is, exactly, but it’s breaking records for production this year and I feel sorry for all the people who live downwind from it.

I don’t know-considering the recent spat of white guys shooting complete strangers in public places, I think I’m more comfortable sitting with the black and brown guys at the movies.

Yeah, we really should have a thread keeping a running tally…

July 2012: The Month That Keeps On Giving

It seems like that to you because you’ve only recently, very briefly been paying attention. I understand getting a number of you dedicated liberal ADHD-types to form a fully coherent train of though is a bit akin to herding cats, but I’ll continue trying, so please bear with me…

Maybe I’d be more inclined to see your touchy-feelie, pacifist POV if you examined the root cause of this psychotic anti-social behavior instead of flailing away ineffectively off the social and political cliffs of things like gun control and anger management at every turn. This shit has been going on forever and it’s actually better than it was in recent history. Anger is a perfectly normal, often quite appropriate human emotion. Every person who displays it is not some fucked up weirdo. I guess since the topic makes the fucked up weirdos posting on it feel better about themselves, maybe it’s a wash.

Get used to it bitch, because I ain’t going anywhere.

Judging by this and a few other threads I’ve perused on this messageboard it looks like the only thing alot of people around agree on is trolls that don’t agree with you. Good to see I am inspiring you thusly!

Maybe someday I can get promoted to senior toll. (sigh)

Jeebus, are you even awake when you make these responses? Since when does “guys shooting complete strangers in public places” have anything at all to do with workplace violence?

You don’t see a connection between shooting coworkers (who in most cases are complete strangers) or the cross-connect between the Empire State shooter yesterday shooting a coworker in a public place?

You must be not think much after you wake up in the morning.

Has there been a flurry of workplace mass shootings lately? No. There certainly has been one of mass shootings in public places, though the NYC one doesn’t count either because the disgruntled guy only shot the one guy he was aiming at. The police shot all the rest.
