At one time, I felt bad for you for saying you were unable to get an education. We had a thread where many of us posted ways for you to get help with your funding, and you shot every single post down. It later came up that you were only one credit from a degree, but that you couldn’t pass the algebra course required. You then discounted every single offer of help with algebra in that thread. After you felt that people were yelling at you for that, you switched reasons and said your husband wouldn’t let you go to school. Well, bullshit. The reason you don’t finish your degree is that you don’t want to. If you did, you would have one less thing to whine about for the sympathy fix you so obviously crave.
Then come the constant whiny work threads, in which you decry the “brown people” at your job for not speaking your language and for acting in a way you hate. Well, tough titties. Until you decide to educate yourself and grow up, you will be stuck in a job you hate. That’s life.
Then, there’s the white trash commentary, but it’s OK, because you’re trash too, right? Well, it’s not OK. You cannot expect to lump every person you dislike into nebulously defined categories in order to denigrate them and not be called on it. I’m going to leave out the ill-advised “not a real Goth” threads, in which you were observed categorizing and ignorantly judging people again.
So here’s for you, IDBB – fuck off. Take your stupidity somewhere else. Get a blog, where you can whine about whatever you want and ignore or delete any comments you don’t like. Or maybe yet another LiveJournal, in which you can further revel in your need for self-created drama. I’ve no sympathy for you at all.
Well, I have mixed feelings about I Dig Bad Boy’s alleged departure.
on the plus side:
She’s exactly like Jean Teasdale (from The Onion). We didn’t have a Jean Teasdale before she arrived (although we did/do have a bunch of Jim Anchowers).
She once posted really, really bad poetry that made me laugh and laugh.

Self-pity gets on my nerves, especially when someone starts lots of self-pity threads and then stamps her feet when people offer advice or viewpoints that differ from her own. The racism never really bothered me much, as it is clearly just ignorance not malice, but I can see why it would offend people.
Eh, my guess is that she’ll lurk for about four hours, and then there’ll be an argument. Eventually she’ll start one too many annoying threads and get banned. Life will go on.
Why is the term “white trash” offensive? What else does one call racist dimbulbs who, although themselves economically disadvantaged, sneer at other working class folks with darker skin or a different language? You know, like IDBB? If she isn’t white trash, who is? (and how else does one describe the shirtless, gap-toothed, mullet-bedecked fellows one sees getting arrested on Cops?)
I’m definitely confused by her definition of a ghetto store as one having 200 kinds of beer and baked goods. In my experience actual ghetto stores, that is, mom-and-pop stores in impoverished, minority-skewed areas like southeast DC, have limited selections of food and beverages. My local Whole Foods Grocery sells Latin American baked goods and a wide selection of international and domestic beers and wines–does that make it a ghetto store? If so, that will come as a severe shock to the folks in my condo association who shop there.
And what’s wrong with stores selling Latin American foodstuffs anyway? I have a Central American grocery right near me, and I’d be lost if I couldn’t buy frijoles negros, masa harina y platanos there. I own cokbooks from the pre-WWII era–no garlic, no cilantro, no chiles–American cuisine back in our grandparents’ time was boring! I’m grateful for the expanded selction in grocery stores that has been spurred by immigration. If anything about immigrants annoys me it’s that they don’t open enough restaurants and grocery stores.
One unfortunate aspect about threads like this is that IMO there is a legitimate debate about the scope and volume of immigration and the future of the cultural makeup of this country? Do we want assimiliation? If so, how much? Will we destroy immigrant incentive if we force them to abandon their heritage? If we allow unlimited immigration and require no common legacy for all of our citizens do we risk racial and ethnic Balkanization in a century?
But when these questions are raised, accusations of racism from the Left and disloyalty from the Right fly back and forth and what could be an informative discussion soon degenerates into an ugly war of insults and ad hominem arguments.
And after posting, I see several posters have added things that I agree with. Miabella, I know that I and my family have also enjoyed talking about the ignorant moron in question, primarily as a cautionary example, but also simply for entertainment. And Giraffe, it is nice to have a Jean Teasdale here; I have yet to meet anyone else who so thoroughly captures the Jeanketeer vibe.
But, you can always read her LiveJournals. Many of her OPs come straight from it, but she tends to be more reserved here on the SDMB.
Whcih part? The last paragraph is a lament that one cannot discuss immigration in a friendly manner because those threads quickly devolve into ugly namecalling back and forth. If one says that immigration should be limited, one is called a racist. If one suggests that immigration is a positive good for the country, one is called a treasonous pinko. Advocates of each position soon spend more time hurling insults at their opponents than in dispassionately discussing the merits and flaws of each other’s arguments.
WTF is up with people announcing that they are leaving lately? I mean, do these people actually think their opinions are worth so much that it warrants opening a thread to say they are leaving? :rolleyes:
And what is this I “might” be leaving? Can she not even commit to leaving or not?
I vow if I ever decide to leave the SDMB I will not post a thread in which I say goodbye, list my grievances and then sit back and wait to see everything people say about me or beg me to stay.
Jeez…talk about an overactive ego. Just leave already…
I think she was leaving open the possibility that we would all cry out in a single voice of horror and dismay at the thought of an SDMB without her and, after several pages of desperate begging, allow herself to be persuaded to stay.
