Solfy, 'nuff of that!
Yeah I’m not 100% yet whether I can go, money being the main constraint. My better half reckons I should start up a paypal fund on myspace. I don’t know anyone generous/gullible enough to pay into it though.
If you go, here’s a list of Christmas stuff to do there:

You’ll have to have your SO take you over to see the Christmas lights display at Nela Park. Nela Park is owned by General Electric, and the campus not only has beautiful Georgian architecture, they do a massive light display from the beginning of December until the New Year, which is a Cleveland tradition. They also make the ornaments and lights for the National Christmas tree, which is put up in Washington DC every year.
This is pretty much definite now. My dates are provisionally the 20th of December to 6th of January.
We gotta get together for some Christmas cheer!
We’re going to be having Dopefests every month at this rate!
Snow is a fifty-fifty chance. But do drive around to see the lights, and since you’ll be in Berea it’s just a short drive to my neighborhood to see the House of Holiday Horrors. (not its officail name!)…they have about…forty or more of those inflatable Christmas things in one small yard…
Go tobogganing in the Metroparks. Go to the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Do the downtown lights thing. Go sit on the beach at Huntington.
Definitely see the lights downtown, in Public Square. Also Nela Park. And if there’s any snow, there will be more of it here in the east 'burbs than anywhere else.
Ah yes, the lake effect, alberta clippers and the like. I’m learning, I’m learning.
Here there isn’t so much of the outside decoration of houses for christmas, mainly just a lit up christmas tree in the family’s front room, although it is becoming more popular to get those moving santas and crap like that. I look forward to seeing the crazy lightshows in peoples’ gardens.
I’d say your chances of snow are pretty good. I just read NOAA’s forecast for this winter, and it says that the Great Lakes area is likely to experience above average precipitation from December 2007 to February 2008. It’s also supposed to be warmer than normal, so expect big fat flakes and lots o’ slush!
I booked my flight, flying in Christmas Eve, staying until January 10th.
Goooooooo great exchange rate!
Welcome to Ohio (soon). It’s cold and snowy here today.
I just noticed this now. Would it not be a bad idea doing something like this in the middle of winter?
Welcome!
Seriously, cider and pumpkin pie await at my house if you have any free time.
I’m 5 minutes north of the airport.
That must be very close to where I’m staying. I’m staying in Berea. Thanks for the invite!
Yes, the aiport is in Berea.
I’ll bet we could scrounge up a couple of other Dopers for a holiday gathering.
I know the wren song.
Count me in. My GF lives near Berea, so this Heights-ish East Sider isn’t adverse to crossing the Cuyahoga.
Hey, I just remembered, Saturday the 29th is my birthday! That’s as good an excuse as any.
Anyone up for a party?
no presents, of course.I have everything I need.
Have any of you gone on this?
Did someone say BEER!.
Now that you have my attention, I could be persuaded to join such an endeavor. And, I’ll wager the collective minds around the Northern Ohio area could construct a better pub crawl than that commercial one. Or, maybe not.
Anyway, put my name in.
I’ve missed the last two NEO Dopefests, so I’m definitely up for a party. Don’t know what my holiday travel plans are yet, but the prospect of a Dopefest just might influence them.
Definitely! And a present will be forthcoming. Alas, it’ll have to come from Ireland. I hope that’s okay.
