I finally moved out of my parents’ house, and into a small two-up, two-down a few miles away. It’s costing me loads more than my rent at home, it’s further to work each morning (over nightmare roads), but it’s mine. And, to a certain extent my girlfriend’s.
I’ve been away from home before - spent three years at university - but then I had to come back. And now, it’s permanent, not just a term at a time - and it’s not shared accomodation, either.
I’m far from settled in, and am trying to get the most important things sorted out first, ie Internet connection. Oh, and a big TV. But first, internet - I’ve been checking out providers in the area, and I’m pleased to have found one that offers “FREE anti-spam & ant-virus”.
Congrats! For the benefit of those of us on this side of the pond, what’s a two-up, two-down? And I’m sorry about the ant-virus. With all this worry about bird flu, too!
I’d not thought of that… better start looking for some roommates!
Yep, homeskillet’s right - there’s a kitchen and a living room downstairs, and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Hardly the height of luxury but it suffices.
I’ve not made the most of it yet, either - only moved in on Monday evening, and I was out last night… so this evening will be my first full evening there. Looking forward to cooking my first meal there - not looking forward to not having a dishwasher though!
Ah, the independence… ah, the power… ah, the expense.
