I need a new electric razor

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted here, let alone started a new thread, so I really have no idea if this is the right place (back in my day, we didn’t have IMHO or Cafe Soiciety- just MPSIMS, Cecil’s Columns, and an outhouse wall and a broken nail clipper).

So I need a new razor to replace my current two-volt stubble collector. And the old-fashioned non-electric kind of razor makes me break out. So what’s the best electric one out there? I need a 24.4 volt cordless DeWalt razor with a carbite cutting surface and air cooling system. Is that self-lubricating one good? Is there one that will have no problem mowing through my neck-stubble? What do you guys use? Money is no option (though I don’t need a gold plated one).

Thanks for your help!

I have always found Braun electric razors to be durable and effective. I don’t like the Phillips-style double or triple circular blades, and Braun stick to the straight-edge style foils.

Thanks, Crusoe. I’ll go check some prices today.

Considered replacing the removeable blades inside the old razor?

My 15-year-old Norelco just keeps on going. But to be fair, the switch crapped out twice in short order when the razor was new, so I wired around it. Other than that, very durable.

This is the last one I purchased:

Braun InterFace rechargeable cord shaver

That’s the marketing puff, anyway. It’s a bit lightweight for me (doesn’t feel very solid) but given it can be used connected to the mains or with the built-in (non-removable) rechargeable battery it makes it great for travel use. Fairly easy to clean, but it’s not one of those waterproof or lubricant-feature types.

Does this count as my most boring post ever?

Another vote for Braun…

I vote Braun, too. I love my Synchro…it does a number on my prodigious neck-stubble, and has a lemon-fresh scent in the morning!

My Norelco triple header is 20 years old and has needed servicing once (about five years ago) in those two decades. Fortunately they still make replacement blades for it.

I’ve never had good luck with the foil head type shavers (a la Braun). For some reason, it’s never taken long for a hole to develop in the foil, and then your skin gets pinched between the foil and the shaving head. ouch!!!

I still have a scar on my chin from where that happened many years ago. I’m one of the few people around who has cut himself with an electric razor!

Nahh. I used to do that regularly. Buying a new foil every six-eight months usually prevents it, mind.

The Braun with the self-cleaning unit has been great since getting for Christmas.

I see it on sale at WalMart occassionally for about $100, including the self-cleaning attachment.

The fluid for the self-cleaner costs about $10, but that is for a two pack and each one seems to last three or four months at least.

Thanks, you’ve all been very helpful. I think I’ll be pricing Brauns.

And Bosda, yes, I’ve replaced the blades. I got it for Christmas and thought it was a pretty top-of-the-line item, but it’s just a piece of crap. I think it’s Norelco, not sure if that means anything.
