How about making your own slideshow? Our computer is in a part of the house were everyone is coming and going. In addition to immediate family photos I included far away extended family, and some of TeenSthrnAccents friends and our pets. I did this just recently and everyone seems to be enjoying it.

I’m not sure if this is the same one. A doper sent me the file, but I found this one this morning so you could have a link to look at. If you decide to try it and want to use the same one I did, feel free to email me and I will get help to send you the same one. It wasn’t hard to do. Link.

Windows XP has an internal screensaver slide show that will work with Windows 95 / 98 / Me / NT and 2000.

  1. All you need is someone with WinXP to provide you with this file —> ssmypics.scr

  2. Copy the above file to the System folder – C:\Window\System for Windows 95/98/Me or C:\WinNT\System32 for Windows NT/2000.

  3. Visit the Microsoft web site and download this file gdiplus_dnld.exe . This is a new graphics library from Microsoft. You should install this file, in the same Windows system folder as the first file – C:\Window\System for Windows 95/98/Me and C:\WinNT\System32 for Windows NT/2000, and finish it by clicking on the Unzip button.

  4. Go to the Desktop settings and setup the “slide show” screen saver.

Since I don’t have a digital camera, most of the pix on my computer are things people sent to me (plus a couple of things I’ve scanned). I’m not sure I need a screensaver alternating a picture of my online pal Bob’s twin grandchildren with a picture of my college pal Steve standing next to a plane in Africa.

I’ll check out a couple of the sites people have linked, but keep the suggestions coming – esp. since I know I’m not the only one who will end up with a new screensaver out of this thread.

Years ago friends of mine had a little man on a one palm tree island doing his darndest to escape.

It was hilarious, I wish I could find it now.

Aside from slideshows of my family, this screensaver is the only one I can watch for more than ten minutes without getting tired of it.
