Ok, I have a dream of making an afgan whose color scheme is reminiscent of the “Amish Lone Star” quilting pattern. In other words I’d like to go from white outwards to black through changing shades of either green or blue, whichever is more feasible.
I have an exceeding basic pattern which I believe may be suitable to achieving my goal (it is just a huge granny square, actually).
So my questions (request for aid, really) is about colors. The colors I have to choose from are shown here:

My local yarn store does not stock a complete array of colors, so I can’t just line them up on the floor, which would be my preference. I’m open to either blues or greens, whichever would work better. Or even anything else you think would look good. Which 4-7 colors should I choose to make the steps from white to black?
What do you think of these combos:
White - Cypress - Sandstone- Mediaterranean - Arcadian - Plantation -Country- Black
White - Delft - Cobalt - Windsor - Williamsburg - Barrington -Renaissance - Black
I think it’s a preference. Either blue or green will shade nicely from black to white. Is your home decor more green or blue? Or, you can do both!
I made a shawl from Caribeean. I call it my Candy Cane shawl.
Perhaps, my question was not very clear. I really don’t care whether I choose green or blue (home decor? Mine could charitably be called “New American Poverty”), I was wondering which do you think shades better using the colors that are available, and also what you think of my suggested color plans – could they be improved?
I really like the Homespun yarns. They’re fun, soft and pretty. I like Chenille too but there aren’t as many color choices.
I crocheted a baby blanket once.
It turned out triangular.
I ripped it apart and threw away the yarn.
I blame society.
I think your selections are great, but I’m seeing too much of a color jump between two of the colors. For instance, Williamsburg meshes nicely with Windsor, but the Barrington is too dark. What do you think of going Williamsburg, Montana Sky, then Barrington?
I see the same jump between Mediterranean and Arcadian. Perhaps Prairie in the middle?
Hm. I see your point about Arcadian. But Prairie seems just as dark to me. What do you think of Olive or Harvest?
For the blue I think Montana Sky would work… or Blue Ridge? I like Colonial too (I even have a skein I haven’t used!) but it seems almost as dark as Barrington so it doesn’t help anything. I think.
I pretended I was making the afghan and didn’t look at your sequence first. for the blues, I came up with almost the same thing except that I had it like this:
Delft - Cobalt - Windsor - Williamsburg - Colonial - Barrington -Renaissance - Gothic - Black
So basically the same, but with more colors.
Honestly, I didn’t like the greens all that much so I didn’t put together a sequence.
