About 2 weeks ago we started the process of creating a new association which wil be international. We are in the process of establishing rules, guidelines, procedures and bi laws. In some ways the meeting is going surprisingly well but I feel an undertone that I am having a hard time interpeting. I am one of the founders so will naturally have a certain amount of the " listen to me" thing going on, but I don’t want to come off as domineering. It appears that every issue that comes up I argue till I get my way. I feel I am getting a large majority of the support, but I don’t want to alienate the ones I am argueing with. I don’t think they realize how many compromises I am making along the way. I know ahead of time what I feel strongly about and items I don’t feel strongly about and tend to try and use those as trading tools.
Whats the secret to negotiating things like this without alienating the very ones you were looking forward to working with. I feel like it all goes back to the objectives of forming the group, once we agree on the objectives the details will come easy. Is it asking too much to ask someone to publicly state their objectives? I stated mine in great detail
