Could anyone tell me the meaning of even a small portion of this song, it would be appreciated. My friend and I have played it a dozen times a day since buying the CD a few weeks ago and we have read the song but have no idea what it is talking about so I’m hoping that atleast 1 person can interpret the meaning of this song if not the whole song then part of it.
Title:
Sphinx’s Coonery
Artist:
Busdriver
Genre:
Hip Hop/Underground Hip Hop/ Rap
Busdriver:
The world cannot be saved children
Your hero’s bloodshed is sponsored by the sphinx’s coonery under the monster eye
(Repeat)
There are a lot of references to Nas’ “I Can”, which is about the same thing. I Can samples Salt-n-Pepa’s “Independent” which is about black women’s feminism. Rap in general builds on on previous recordings and references them a lot. So you have to listen to a lot to start seeing stuff or getting references that seem random.
START, keep in mind it is against SDMB policy to post entire song lyrics, due to copyright violations. It would be a shame to get into trouble with the mods AGAIN.
It should be noted that START tried to notify a staffer to remove the offending material as soon as he discovered he was in error. Unfortunately for him, this is not usually my section of the Straight Dope vineyard and by the time I found the email, Czarcasm was on the case and had writ and moved on.
So, no harm, no foul, but hey, little quotes only, okay?
