I took dinner out tonight at Jason’s Deli. The sit down restaurant offers free ice cream [vanilla and chocolate frozen yogurt] and mini gingerbread muffins (among other bread items) to every customer.
The frozen yogurt is the typical three handle machine, with the swirl “flavor” in the middle that we have all seen a million times.
The gingerbread muffins, however, are something else. [A quick look on the web shows that I am not alone in this belief.]
The thought occurred to me, that I would probably forgo Jason’s altogether if it weren’t for the muffins.
What restaurants and or websites do you consider to be one-trick ponies? What is that pony?
Jack in the box has:
The cheapest $1 deal of all fast food places (2 tacos for a dollar.)
The best hamburger (bacon sourdough jack)
The best finger food (egg rolls and stuffed jalapenos)
Although these aren’t one trick ponies, I only go there for one of these at a time.
McDonald’s has the best $1 menu burger, the double cheeseburger.
There’s a spaghetti place I go to that has the best noodles.
I will only go to McD’s for the filet-o-fish (although I recently had one of those new angus burgers and it was pretty good). Zipperjj—2 cups Bisquick, 2/3 cups milk, 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar–drop by the spoonful onto cookie sheet, bake at 450 for 8 to 10 minutes. Brush the tops with 1/4 cup melted butter mixed with 1/2 tsp. garlic powder as soon as you remove from the oven.
I thought this thread was going to be answers like I only go to Hooters for the Buffalo Wings Mind you, the Hooters in Texas I went to had great wings. The Hooters in SF had the worst wings I have ever had.
I agree with ZipperJJ about the cheese biscuits , but when they have all you can eat shrimp, their breaded shrimp is pretty damn good.
McDonalds? Double-cheese when I am broke and Big Mac when I am not. Their fries *used *to be good.
Incidentally, the new Ribs at Burger King are damn good, but really tiny.
I only go to a particular local Restaurant for their all you can eat steak dinner. The steak is just Sirloin trim, but it’s locally raised beef, and he uses a really good Montreal style seasoning. Helluva deal at around $10.
(I guess I should put on my flameproof overalls now. Yes, I understand the criticism of Starbucks. Yes, I also like “real” coffee, but just as I enjoy a milkshake at times, I love the occasional Caramel Macchiato.)
Nothing wrong with Starbucks. I did a taste test once in SF, comparing Mochas. Now, sure Starbucks didn’t come in 1st, but they didn’t come in last either. Last place was one of those oh-so independent coffee places with the “Starbucks is crap” attitudes and messages up. So, Starbucks is Ok.
I only go to Red Lobster for the fried clams, which used to be the only reason I went to Red Robin (what’s this Red thing?), which aren’t on the RL dinner menu but are on the “appetizer” menu, so I get a clam appetizer and a side salad. RR doesn’t have them at all anymore.
