I’m mostly addressing folks who like burger’s and/or fast food. I just got home from McDonald’s and realizes that I only go there because it has a play place and my kids enjoy playing there, but the food is really not as good as Jack-in-the-Box or Burger King. Wendy’s and In-N-Out tower over it.
Okay, McDonald’s Breakfast are pretty good, but as far as everything else, why even go there?
I love McDonald’s! Their french fries are the best out there. Yum. Losing McD.'s has been the hardest part of dieting for me. I could go for a number 2 meal right now!
Nobody can touch McDonald’s fries, as far as I’m concerned.
Once a month, I don my full length mink, my oversized, extra-dark sunglasses and an auburn wig. I drive approximately eighteen miles to a McDonald’s where nobody will recognize me or my car. I even park in the back. Carefully, making eye contact with no one, I enter, go up to the counter and order two hot apple pies. Yes, I actually say the ‘hot’ in ‘hot apple pies’.
If I’m ever asked my name, I’m prepared to tell them it’s Anastasia Beaverhausen.
Quick ‘n’ easy. A 15 minute old Quarter Pounder is far less enjoyable than the one that’s in your hands 30 seconds after engaging.
And that touches on the only situation wherein I now transact with any of the above. About 5 times a month I know I have to eat, and their convenience comes in to play.
Jack-in-the-Box is an absolute no-no, as I cannot eat their food without experiencing debilitating gaseous distress. Too bad, as I actually liked some.
Top two would be Burger King (grills the patties > grease falls away) and Wendy’s. But the Mac can serve in a “we’ve got three minutes for lunch” pinch.
I like the french fries, the Big Mac, and the double cheeseburger. Beefy goodness in that last one… yum.
Even if you didn’t like the food that much, if you’re on the East coast, there really aren’t that many choices. Often your only alternative is Burger King. There are Wendy’s, but few and far between. No Fatburger or In and Out or Carl’s or Jack-in-the-Box. Much better choices on the West coast for some reason.
In-N-Out is far and away the best hamburger in existence. I tend to get tired of it faster than McDonalds though. I can eat McDonalds two or three days in a row (though for awhile now I try to avoid fast food like the plague. Mostly on eat it on roadtrips), whereas I can’t do that with In-N-Out.
In-N-Out is like Mt. Everest, McDonalds is Denali, and every other fast food joint is more or less an ant-hill.
We don’t have In-and-Out yet, but rumor has it we’re getting one. I’ve never eaten at one, but I’ve heard stories.
I eat at McDonald’s way too much, as my kids love it and my 5 year-old has to have every freakin’ Happy Meal toy that comes out. This last one is a “beanie baby” type thing- it’s just an oval-shaped lump of cloth that does absolutely nothing and I thing all the little kids should rebel against McD’s for that crap.
Anyway, I might be the only one in the world, but I’m not totally offended by the Filet-o-Fish. Sometimes I even get two. The Big n’ Tasty’s good too, but I hate saying it. And the order-taker will invariable say “What??!!” like I just asked for a deep-fried duck with two heads, and I have to repeat it.
I don’t like cheeseburgers, so any burger I get is fresh-made. That’s really the only way to go.
As for McDonald’s fries, I personally think they suck. They’re tolerable if they’re extremely fresh and hot, but 5 minutes later they’re dead. Burger King fries, again HOT, I like because they have a coating on them that makes them crispy, and I’m a crispy fry kinda gal.
I used to love the hot apricot pies that McDonalds served when I lived in NZ several years ago.
I am such a sucker for the double cheeseburger. It’s only a dollar, and–wow- it’s good. Not good as far as ‘burgers’ go, but just tasty. Especially when it’s fresh off the fryer.
I get two of them babies when I go, and where else can I get filled up for less than 2 and a quarter?
I know I shouldn’t eat them that often, but unfortunately my job has me on the road quite a bit, so when the hunger pains start kicking in, there’s always a McDonald’s around.
Before I moved overseas, other American’s who’d lived abroad told me I’d soon be eating at McDonald’s all the time.
I scoffed at this notion. I hadn’t even set foot in a McDonald’s for at least the past five years, and for a long time before that it was only because there was a McDonald’s next to the bus stop where I had a lenthy transfer so I sometimes went in to use the toilet or buy a drink or bag of fries.
But sure enough, I’ve eaten at McDonald’s in Japan quite a few times. Not super often, but at least once every month or two. The thing about McDonald’s is, many of their weaknesses are also their strengths. You can go into a McDonald’s anywhere in the world and get the same thing with the same name and the same taste as in America. It’s pretty much the same wherever you go! That’s plenty of reason for pleasure travellers to avoid the place, but if you’re trying to adjust to eating foreign food at every meal every day for the foreseeable future, it’s kind of comforting to know that the Golden Arches are there.
Besides which, they’re cheap.
Better still, McDonald’s in Japan is almost like the McDonald’s that exists only in TV commercials in the US…a sparkling clean place where the staff is polite, well-groomed, and seems genuinely happy to serve you. There’s also less reliance on warmed-over food. It may take a little longer to get your order, but odds are it’s been freshly prepared and not just sitting under a heat lamp for hours. And if you have to wait for your order, you can sit down and someone will bring it to your table on a tray when it’s ready! Table service at McDonald’s! It’s amazing!
That said, Mos Burger has much, much better food. I’m sure it’s healthier, too. But McDonald’s beats out Lotteria any day of the week.
Another vote for McDonald’s having the best darn fries around.
I’m also quite a fan of Big Macs and Quarter Pounders with cheese. Best of all, McDonald’s is 4 blocks from my house and the drive thru is open 24 hours a day.
I think I feel a Big Mac attack coming on…
The fries are good and I get the occasional craving for a filet-o-fish, plus their burgers don’t actively offend. I couldn’t eat there regularly and remain sane, but I do prefer it to both Jack-in-the Box ( their brand of grease and Miracle Whip-style dressing has an odd flavor that bugs me - I usually stick with the cat-meat tacos if I have to get something there ) and Burger King ( I just like the various iterations of the whopper and nothing else ). I’m among those poor beknighted souls that thinks White Castle is pure nastiness - no liver-flavored, pate consistency mini-burgers for me, thank-you-very-much. So McDonald’s doesn’t thrill, but it’s tolerable.
But usually if I want a burger these days and don’t feel like doing one myself, I go to Barney’s Gourmet Burgers in Albany ( CA ).

We have Carl’s on the East Coast - it’s called Hardees.
Oh, I adore McDonald’s! Their fries are the most delicious in fast food, and I love the McNuggets. I can’t stand the other national fast-food joints, although I’ll eat at the chicken-strip places like Golden Chick or the local hamburger joint, Jucy’s.
I love me some Big Macs, cheeseburgers, fries and McNuggets.
And the McFlurries are good too.
Maybe it’s just the nostalgia thing-when I was little, I loved eating at McDonalds, and now the taste reminds me of the fun times I used to have with Happy Meals and such.
Oh, and I HATE Booger King’s fries, although I do love the Whopper with cheese.
Wendy’s is good too.
(I eat too much junk food).
I don’t really like McD’s (at least unless I’m drunk) but in general it’s a quick easy meal. The fries are half decent as long as there is not too much salt and they are fresh and the burgers do in a pinch (I much prefer my homemade ones though)
And considering I have few choices at the mall nearby it’s either cheap McD’s or expensive Chinese or Greek.
If I have a choice though I go for New York fries (with vinegar and that California seasoning) and Burger King burgers.
I have never, ever gotten cold fries or cold anything at a McD’s in Japan. This continues to just blow me away. I went to McD’s (or any other fast food place) only very occasionally in the states, but it was a gamble each time: will my fries be stone cold? NEVER had that problem here. And the staff knows how to count money! And smiles! At one McD’s in Tokyo, there was a hostess leading people to available seats.
Back to the food - I like only the french fries and the Sausage Egg McMuffin. If I have a hangover, I eat the Sausage Egg McMuffin and am cured.

what an interesting thread…
I’ve been going to McDonalds alot more since they got the all white meat nuggets.
I like their fries, but I usually prefer Chick-Fil-A’s waffle style fries over the mcdonalds ones, usually because the closest mcdonalds to me doesn’t have the best staff around.
So yep, I like McDonald’s.
