I’m focusing on major fast food chains, here. Not your obscure local fast food that makes that great burger. Major chains only, please.
Anyway, as much as some whine and complain(I do, anyway) about fast food chains, there are a few items I adore and make it all worth it.
What individual items do you adore from the major chains?
I love:
Baja Gordita - Taco Bell - Honestly, if I could make that Baja sauce, I’d make it every day, eat it on everything, and die of a heart attack soon. It’s amazing. I love it.
5-Bean Burrito - Taco Bell - Seriously, for $1, this think is awesome.
Soft Taco - Taco Bell - Yeah, these are great. I haven’t had a hard shell taco since I was a kid.
Big Bacon Burger - Wendy’s - It’s #4 on their meal deals. Has been for years. Tastes unhealthy, but I love it.
Jr. Whopper - Burger King - Yes, the Jr. Whopper. I guess it is the same as the regular one, but I eat this one and don’t feel like having a heart attack.
What items do you actually like? I rather dislike or don’t care about other items from most chains. You?
I’m with you on the Whopper Jr. It’s a pretty good fast food burger IMHO.
McDonald’s apple pies are still pretty good after all I’ve eaten. I still get a pair of them a few times a year.
Generally speaking, I detest cheap ice cream and all soft serve goo but Wendy’s frosties are the exception. On a hot summer day they can slide down very nicely.
McDonald’s double cheeseburger. Perfect proportion of “meat,” “cheese,” those little rehydrated onions, ketchup and mustard. Could eat a dozen of them (but limit myself to 2 a visit).
Concur with the soft taco from Taco Bell, but I really like the double decker taco, drowned in 4-5 hot taco sauce packets. All the goodness of a soft taco plus the crunch of a hard shell and the texture of refried beans.
Wendy’s single – My favorite burger this side of Five Guys.
Wendy’s fries – I’m not as impressed with the new version with “sea salt”, but they still are great. McDonald’s are close when they’re fresh, but you have to be lucky to get them that way. Usually you get things that are hard as a rock and barely warm even if you eat them in the store, but Wendy’s are always fresh and hot. The best fries (outside of Five Guys) is at Nathan’s, BTW, but I don’t know how big a chain that is.
Wendy’s used to have a mandarin orange salad which was not only the best fast-food salad around, but also the healthiest. Then they ruined it by putting “warm” chicken on it instead of cold diced chicken. Now they stopped offering it.
The Whopper Junior is a nice hamburger, but I rarely get it because Burger King fries taste like they’ve been cooked in detergent.
Arthur Treacher’s Original Fish and Chips – two filets and fries.
Nathan’s Hot Dog – best hot dog around.
Subway – tuna sub. Best chain sub there is, especially with banana peppers as part of the mix.
I usually eat these when I about to go into a mosquito infested area. I figure it is my way of getting rid of the mosquitos. Because once those mopsquitos get a big ole fat globule, I figure the mosquito is dead.
I’ve got a thing for Wendy’s baked potatoes, although the only things I can ever conceive of ordering with them is a batch of chicken nuggets or a side salad. Their Jr. bacon double cheeseburger is pretty good too, although Mickey D’s double cheeborger is still the gold standard.
Wendy’s, however, has been pissing me off of late by dropping items that I really liked, such as a rather nice chicken salad sandwich they offered for a while, and, as someone mentioned, their salads, which were completely ruined when they went from cold diced chicken to tepid ‘warm’ chicken strips.
About the only thing I like on Jack in the Box’s menu is the sourdough burger, but that I like very much.
Every so often I get an extreme craving for Taco Bell’s taco supremes, in the hard shell of course, with hot (not mild, not fire) sauce. Nothing else will do.
Hmm, Chick Fil-A deluxe sandwich (meaning lettuce & tomato, apparently) with pepper jack cheese and mayo.
I must confess that there’s not a whole lot else out there that is particularly appetizing to me.
I find the fries at Red Rooster (a national Australia-only chain) to be utterly perfect. If you ever get the opportunity to try them out, you might change your mind on your preferences.
I also like KFC’s potato and gravy.
I also love their chicken (both chains), but I have had some wacky thing going on with my throat that makes chicken a hazard to eat, so I am forced to avoid it most of the time.
Luckily I have simple, pedestrian, some might say dull, tastes in food.
Carl’s Jr.'s Six Dollar Burger is as good as a burger gets, even outside of a fast food chain. There’s something about their combination that is as close to perfect as I’ve found. By far my #1.
There’s a Taco Bell item here (not sure if it’s on a national menu) called the Beefy 5 Layer burrito. It’s 89 cents for a bean, beef, cheese, sour cream burrito that’s perfect. Love it.
Wendy’s Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers have always been great for the price. But that’s a bit of a nostalgia item for me. I like their fries the best of any fast food chain, and especially so now with the recent changes. I’ve always hated McDonald’s fries, which don’t taste like potatoes but rather just oil and too much salt.
Rally’s… almost anything- burgers, fries, fish, chicken. Their fries are my favorites!
Sonic’s shakes - especially the cream pie ones. Its food is meh. Our Sonic & our Rally’s are across the street. When I want to totally pig out, I’ll get the drink from Sonic’s & the food from Rally’s.
I love McD’s- maybe it’s childhood nostalgia, but burgers, fries, fish, chicken, esp the Big Macs & Quarter Pounders with Cheese.
Burger King Whoppers.
Arby’s Beef & Cheddar, Curly Fries, Subs.
Long John Silver’s Fish & Chicken. Our local one went out of business soon after Captain D’s came in. I have no discernable reason for preferring LJS’ food & yet I do. (I do like the actual Fishing Shack Decor w/ the Bell you ring as you leave that LJS has.)
Big Boy Restaurant’s Big Boy, Brawny Lad & Swiss Miss.
I keep granola bars in the car so when I get faint with hunger out shopping or whatever for the day, I don’t immediately head for a fast food drivethrough. But there are times when I just HAVE to have a Burger King Whopper Jr. It takes the edge off my hunger and I think it tastes better than a full size Whopper - maybe they use a different bun.
I sorely miss McDonald’s chicken fajitas. I’ve never bought, or made, any that are remotely as simple and tasty and just right.
But I do love the roasted chicken (not fried) wraps you can get at McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and KFC. With mayo, or chipotle, or honey mustard…MMMMM! NOM!
