Good Lord, I passed the AZ Bar Exam! Just got my letter, and just called my folks. And, man, I’m still freaking out! I PASSED!
A small part of me still thinks it must be some horrible mistake. I took the Bar last July and failed. I was supposed to take it in February, but my job allowed me no time whatsoever to study. I knew that all of my law school buddies were working, pulling in some serious cash. And here I was, a poor schlub trying to manage a group home (or three) for developmentally disabled folks. Sure, it was nice, and I got a certain level of job satisfaction, but I had just been in school for seven years, and I wasn’t working in my chosen profession.
This time, I took a class in how to take the bar. I thought that, even if I passed, nothing would make me feel better about failing it the first time, but I was wrong.
Because I not only passed, I KICKED ASS! I have to look way, way down to see those average scoring folks.
Woo hoo!
P.S. If anyone wants free legal advice from me, you can kiss my ass. I can charge now! Woo hoo!
Congrats. I remember waiting for the NY bar exam results to be posted on the bar examiner’s website, costantly hitting “refresh” over and over…and seeing my name on the list. It’s a nice feeling.
Now that you’re a lawyer (yeah, I know, you’ve gotta be sworn in and do a lot of paperwork to make it official, but for all practical purposes you’re in), be prepared: everyone hates you. Even your own clients. Nobody likes lawyers. Except, of course, when you save someone’s ass. Then they like you for a few minutes. Then they get the bill and go back to hating you.
Congrats. Now you can say “IAAL” in all those law-related threads. But don’t forget the disclaimer “This is not intended as legal advice, consult an attorney,” etc.
I can honestly say that I revere Zappo as being almost God-like. I have to because he knows my address and he could track me down and hurt me.
Congrats all the same! And don’t ever let us catch you doing those cheesy ambulance-chaser commercials. They’re embarrassing. No self-respecting Doper would ever do anything embarrassing!
Good morning, Counselor, and congratulations. One piece of advice–the first rule for avoiding legal malpractice is never do anything for the first time. Also never say to a client, “I’ve never done this before.”
pravnik, when did you take the bar? I took mine in the end of July, and I thought I had to wait a long time. I can’t imagine having to wait until November.
