The comment that my friend was not dead was followed up by another comment, from his best friend (I recognized the name), that our mutual friend is on life support pending donation of his organs. The docs may be keeping his body going so he can help other people, but all that made my friend who he was is gone, like tears in the rain.

Two silver linings I can see here. One, you shared with (invented even?) the term “frog filching prion” which is priceless, so thank you for that.

And two, hopefully as you said, your friend’s organs will go to saving the lives of other people who may very well be good people too, and they will be eternally grateful that your friend was a donor.

I am so sorry though. I can’t even imagine what I would do or feel if my best friends were killed by a hit and run driver.

The organ donation is about the only ray of sunshine in this. Between that, and the murder investigation, the funeral is being delayed for some days. I’m Jewish, so aything outside of a day or two for a funeral is odd to me. My friend wasn’t Jewish, so whatever his family wants is their decision, except for the organ donation and police delays. I can only imagine what my friend’s family would be going through with funeral delays if the only reason were the investigation. This all sucks.

What also sucks is that John is the first guy who could make me laugh at terrible things like that and get me through. How are we supposed to get through this without him?

Sorry to read that. Sad to lose a good person like that.

One thing you might do is put a bit of pressure on the police. Post flyers asking any witnesses to step forward. Maybe attend a police-community meeting and ask what is being done.

Ask if auto body shops have been notified.

Find out if there were any security cameras around. Sometimes cops seem rather obtuse about cameras.

I’m sure other, posters have more and better ideas.

I’m really sorry to hear that. I was struck by a hit-and-run a long time ago, but survived with injuries…it’s weird recalling how close that was to my grisly death. They never found mine; hope they find his.

The same thing humans always do. You can’t replace someone like that, you just do your best to carry on doing the good that they would if they were still around. That’s the best memorial you can give them.

There have been a wave of pedestrians being hit by cars here lately (some fatal, some not). Sometimes the pedestrians are crossing legally, sometimes not. I walk all the time, and I avoid getting hit probably about once every couple of months.

Typo, I had a friend murdered years ago. The rage is numbing. I am sorry for the loss of your dear friend and have no words of solace.

Focus the anger, be smart, keep an eye out on any leads that may help the police and let them do their job. They DETEST hit and runners. This guy should hang higher than Haman.
