See, this is a common misconception about the value of the Pit. It’s not about homicidal rage, it’s about the ability to heap scorn on those you think are being stupid or obnoxious.

Can I start a Pit thread about how much fun it is to lynch people who are different? That should liven things up. If not, why not?
I see no good reason why you shouldn’t, other than the instant closure of the thread and your subsequent banning. Which would certainly add to the sum of human merriment on the forum.
This reminds me of the Golden Days of the Pit, shortly after Giraffe took over as mod so many moons ago. It was so beautiful to see him taking all the MPSIMS crap and actually moving it over there. There were 10-15 threads moved, all at once.
I tear up a little just thinking about it.

Hate to embarrass the guy, but best Pit mod ever! You got the feeling that here was somebody who actually cared about the Pit, recognized its function in the scheme of things and fought to preserve that function.

At the same time, we don’t need the pit to be filled with theoretically full grown adults who feel the need to act like edgy teenagers and throw in a bunch of swear words just because it’s the pit. Why is everyone so stuck on the swearing thing, as if that’s what makes a great pitting? No one is talking about the ability to say asshole*, and those idiotic pittings in which the OP would go on for five paragraphs without a single obscenity about some inane crap that just ruined their day were justified by popping down a few lines and saying “oh, yeah, since this is the pit: FUCK! ;)” were just the stupidest ever. It is about the ability to truly let fly on either another poster or someone or some thing that requires the highest level of NYSV** and loathing you can conjure in one well spun OP. If you really think that amounts to being a potty mouth, then I submit you have missed out on some amazingly well wrought Pit OP’s.
*However: as I pointed out in that ATMB thread, adults swear. I don’t need to be having a conversation with some wilting flower that can’t take the occasional obscenity or they get a case of the vapors. Get over it.
