She involved minor children, and came off as mean. The criticisms themselves were both obviously petty, and not obviously accurate. And the occasion was about the stupidest imaginable. Really, the dress and posture of these perfectly inoffensive kids did not match the gravitas and decorum demanded for the “turkey pardoning”?!
I hate to repeat myself in the same threat. But to add to this correct observation by Peremensoe and others, we also have indication that this woman is completely insane:

At least there wasn’t much of an attempt to milk the situation for political gain, unless you count the New York Post.
I do not agree that it is a win. If those guys are stupid assholes, their idiocy ought to be on display, not obscured or obfuscated. This woman was a communications director, she should have kept her job and be led to believe that spewing nonsense is a good thing, so that her compatriots could be allowed to expose themselves fully.
Oh, if she wasn’t fired, we’d all be having fainting spells that a communications director can do *this *and still keep her job. Whatever have we come to?

It might be nice to keep track of her, but it would also send a message that what she did is perfectly okay. We may be able to recognize that said people are assholes, but, as the evidence in this threads shows, the party faithful would not. Eventually, it would just be accepted that this stuff is okay, and both sides will use it.
That’s already happened with what candidates say about each other. Political ads are often full of people being assholes, but we see it as normal. The idea that you can pick out the assholes is gone. When someone goes beyond our already rather permissive limits, I think we need to push back hard.
