I Pit Amazing Grace Baptist Church

The one who thinks it’s ok if women wear pants and listen to rock and roll.

Muhammad was an illiterate merchant who recited in full over many years the Q’uran for others to transcribe. Would you agree this was certainly inspired by God?

The god I don’t believe in prefers women to be pantless, for the record. Disrobe!

I’m curious to see where you’re going with this one, and I have a feeling curtis won’t be back for a while…

So let’s just assume he did the predictable thing and said “No.”

What’cha gonna say?

If he’s going where I think he is, that Paul has no more objective authority to dictate the shape of the Christian church than Muhammad had to dictate the shape of Islam. For someone with no dog in the races, they’re both pretty much “people who thought something about religion a long time ago.”

While that’s a logical argument, and I totally get that. I don’t think it’d work w/ Curt and his Faith in his being correct.

Pretty much. Plus, since Paul and Muhammad can’t both be right, how would somebody- let’s say the son of one Christian parent and one Muslim- know which one- if either- was correct; both made miraculous claims and both inspired a monotheistic religion and neither were witnessed by anybody who’s been able to eat for more than 1300 years.

All other stuff aside, I’m glad to see at least one 13 year old here (if nothing to remind me how old I really am), this is the Dope after all. Dope makes people smarter and makes them think. Who wouldn’t want to expose more 13 year olds to the kind of influence we can bring to the Youth of America?

Hell of a lot better than that High School Musical or whatever the heck it is that 13 year olds are into (so sue me, it’s been 25 years since I was that age, and my kids are only 7 and (almost) 5!)

If you’re Protestant, that’d be Utah.

(BTW, sorry for posting ina zombie thread, still relatively new Doper who realized early on that there’s no way I’d catch up on the old threads, so I just read new posts. This one looked intersting so started at the beginning. Didn’t realize until later how far back this beginning was … )

Don’t worry about it dhk. It’s not quite a zombie thread until it’s been off the main page for a few days at least. The last post was made just several hours back so there’s still some life in this one.

And welcome to the Dope!

snerk! Good to have ya here, and thanks for the chuckle!

Btw, Curtis, since you’ve been mentioned in several pit threads but I know that you’ve said you’re saving this one and reading it- I’ll put this here.

I’m not a fan of pittings, and it’s not really my thing. I think you’re an okay poster, and you’re as okay as anyone else here on the Dope. But I do have one complaint against you, sir- you have a tendency to disappear from your posts/comments/threads. Now, I know you’re young and perhaps don’t have all the time to spend on the interwebs and all, that’s fine with me. But there have been several threads where you’ve posted comments, some that were really out there, and then when questioned by others- you’ve simply ignored them or never came back to the thread again.
That’s really annoying. I first noticed this when you took the time to create a presidential elimination thread, and then when Old Ronnie was voted out, basically the game was left to die. It had to be revived by another poster and continue on before you would come back to the game.
You’ve also had several religious threads where you’ve just chosen to pick and choose which questions you answered, which is your prerogative and all, but still it’s starting to become a noticeable trend. (The Homosexuality- Sin Thread, the Nazi Thread, the Der Trihs thread), etc.
I even asked you a question about one of your assertions in the Saudi Crucifixion Case. And no response. I certainly wasn’t attacking you or anything like that- as you’ve certainly been attacked in other threads and so fair enough, running away/ignoring them is a tactic- but in this one I wanted to know your thoughts more so. I was asking you for a clarification, and nothing.
Now, I know you’ve not been around for those 2 days or so since I made the comment, so perhaps you haven’t gotten around to it.
But here’s the thing- if it’s not just that one post- because of your past history you’re getting a reputation (at least in my mind) as someone who might make a post, but then simply choose to leave without warning from the topic.
That’s not a good reputation to have, and I certainly do hope that you try to take these comments in the best of light- because it is annoying for someone to suddenly post something semi-controversial or inflammatory, but then choose not to come back and follow up on it.

So to sum up: I just wanted to let you know my thoughts and hope you give my comments some thoughts. If you choose to ignore them, or go TLDR, that’s fine too. That’s your choice.
I just wanted to give you a heads up though, because, well- it is frustrating, and I consider myself a pretty tolerant/patient guy. So if I’m feeling/thinking this, I’m sure others may have similar opinions but may not be so polite about expressing these thoughts.

Just some food for thought, Curt.
Peace out, and Have a Nice Day.

However Paul didn’t recant his statement about homosexuality did he? Anyways I will respond in the non-Pit threads but I won’t debate here, this is more of an circlejerk thread.

How would you know? Do you believe that that all of his writings, including those written under guard in prison, survived him then? It’s not possible there’s a missing “Epistle to the Athenians” or a first and second Alexandrians that didn’t make the final compilation? And how do you address the issue of his use of vague words he seems to have coined when words for homosexual acts and their participants existed and would have been known to him and to his readers?

This is my textual opinion and I don’t think people who don’t think homosexuality is a sin is automatically doomed to Hell.

Aw, c’mon. I don’t think you’re circular.

It’s fine that it’s your opinion, but by stating so you’ve moved away from a Bible-supported position to an entirely subjective one.

And if this is a circlejerk thread, you’re definitely in the circle: you’ve stated a position, others have pointed out that the Biblical scholarship behind that position isn’t as sound as you think and that there are some quite sensible questions arising from Paul’s use of specific words, and you’ve basically declared that nothing will change your mind and that you’re leaving. Alrighty then.

UPDATE: AG Baptist Church couldn’t hold their book burning as there are laws in North Carolina that ban paper burning and also because it rained so they had to rip the books apart instead. :p;)

Well, I guess the Lord didn’t want them to burn the books.

At 13 the first thing you should question is what you would have believed if you had been born somewhere else. Let’s say in an Islamic country. You would have been brought up studying Islam, believing Islam.

The Bible isn’t the word of God, it’s a book, written by men trying to explain the unexplainable.

Life is a WHOLE lot more complicated than just an easy submission to blind belief.
