This has happened to me TWICE in the parking deck at my job. THe first time the damage was not too terrible; some paint transfer and a small dent in my rear driver’s side door. The second time, however, it was a huge dent in the same door, along with a long stripe of paint transferred from their car to mine. NO way in hell did the person who hit me not realize it, nor could they have thought they didn’t do any damage. No note. And the video cameras in the deck didn’t catch it either (security to me – “sorry, we’ve got cameras, but they don’t all record to video”). My car now looks like a junker, because I cannot afford to replace the damaged door. It sucks.
I got my new car, only the second I’ve had in my life, on Dec 29th. Friday, while at the parking lot in the bank, I was signing some checks and whatnot before going in when I heard the “THUMP” of someone opening their door and hitting my car. I got out, and I think the lady was surprised to see me. I refrained from yelling, though, and we exchanged info (turns out she is a claims processor from my insurance company) and I’m taking it today to have it looed at. It’s a small scratch, should only cost ~40 bucks to wetsand out, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay for it, and I am not going to drive around in my brand new car with a scratch on it.
I think the woman would not have bothered to leave a note or anything had I not been there, though.
Let’s see; we’ve had three cars hit-and-run in the last four years. No note at any time. One time we got to the door in time to see the person who had hit our car (as he backed up from our car and drove away), and it was a truck with his license plate obscured by snow. Asshole.
We are still in the process of getting our car fixed from the last hit-and-run. It’s going to cost us $500 out of our pocket (insurance deductible), plus the car rental because the autobody shop that was supposed to fix the car (recommended to us by our insurance company) used up our car rental allowance while our car was sitting in their shop, not getting worked on.
And now they’ve stopped returning our phone calls.
I also pit these miserable excuses for human beings who do this. I wish upon them what they’ve done to us. I have to believe in what goes around comes around, or my anger at the injustice of it might drive me crazy.
Hopefully, karma will come your way.
My store is right across the street from a bar. I once watched someone walk out of the bar, get into her car, and leave. She first backed into the car behind her, and then didn’t swing out far enough (she had plenty of room) and hit the car in front of her. She got out on the 2nd try and took off, but by then I’d made it out onto the sidewalk and gotten her license number. I went into the bar and announced what happened. The bartender knew her, and I hope the situation was resolved well for the two whose cars were hit.
