You know, you’re the one who first came at me with your condescending bullshit from the get-go, so kindly take your whimpering about “respect” and blow it out your ass. Want respect? Show respect. It’s really simple.
Then it’s a really stupid point, because 8 years prior is an eternity in politics. It was an entirely different political age, not even Obama’s 2nd term. Yes there were partisan shenanigans back then, no they don’t match the atmosphere of desperate brazen power grabs that we’re now seeing. Witness the new voter suppression law they passed this last summer. Will it be the last gasp? You’re a fool if you think so.
They gave it their best to date, and they’ve since topped themselves, and there’s no sign they’re going to stop. Raffensberger, the only safety valve on the whole process, will be gone in 2022. Do not confuse “they gave it everything” with “they can’t come up with anything else.”
Go home, take a nap, you’re stepping on your dick now.
Now you’re just off the playing field entirely and lugging those goalposts down to the train station. Nowhere did I say or suggest that you’re saying Democrats are worse than Republicans.
I made it very clear, including in the part of my most recent post that you explicitly quoted, that my complaint is that you’re accusing Democrats of being “not much better” than Republicans based on extremely exaggerated equivalences. Such as describing a consensual adulterer as “not much better than” a corrupt grifter who’s outrageously abusing his position of public trust for partisan advantage.
Since it seems I need to spell it out for you, my point is that yes, a consensual adulterer is in fact “much better than” a corrupt grifter who’s outrageously abusing his position of public trust for partisan advantage.
Even though it’s quite true that consensual adultery can be shitty behavior and can have substantial negative impacts for individuals and parties, it’s still nowhere near as bad as the kind of anti-democracy sabotage that Republicans are pulling.
Gee, now you’ve managed to get those goalposts actually inside a freight car on a cross-country train. Bye-bye, goalposts!
No, nobody here in the real-world version of this thread has said or suggested in any way that Democrats are infallible.
Nobody’s making you out to be any kind of a “villain”: I’m just complaining about your lack of reasonableness.
Nothing wrong with that. What there’s something wrong with, IMHO, is that you can’t seem to handle a mild disagreement about your rhetorical exaggeration without melting down and pissing your pants all over the thread for several successive posts.
The reason why it’s a big deal to me is because, as someone who’s busting his ass on activism in the South, this sort of sneering faux-leftism that substitutes superciliousness for action is one of the greatest hurdles to getting anything done.
There’s work to do. Do the fuckin work, don’t whine about how it’s useless.
We might agree on the basic dialectics, but dialectics don’t break bricks.
That, and you have to admit our Not Quite Runcible has a bit of a history of doing this - getting bent out of shape telling other posters what they “really” mean and how wrong their straw counterparts are.
This is really hilarious given that I merely gave an opinion which apparently got up LHOD’s ass, upon which he launched off point to scan my brain and determine that I’m apparently a supercilious faux-leftist who’s ruining everything. And then even complained that I’m not giving him enough respect. Great reading comprehension, you really nailed it there buddy!
What a boorish thing to say. You’re really being an ass here. The pair of you basically agree. The only really difference is your trying to make change happen and he’s pretty pessimistic about success for change.
Why don’t you try going after someone that actually has a different opinion if you need to rant at someone.
We have different causes we work on. Good on you to work on the local/state level for politics. My activism is on the environment. I rarely contribute to political causes but I do work on green issues and actively help out. You don’t have a clue what HMS does and you’re berating him for letting politics as usual make his pessimistic? What the living hell?
That level of pessimism and the willingness to spread it, is an obvious danger to change. I for one perfectly understand LHoD, as someone working for change, pointing that out.
I’ve never seen anyone’s mind changed on the environment by browbeating them. It takes time, patience and facts. Lots and lots of facts. But brow beating rarely works.
I lose that at times over COVID, but mostly I can follow that idea.
I’ve never seen anyone’s mind changed on the environment by spreading a message of doom and gloom either.
We may have different perspectives on what “browbeating” is, but I would disagree that LHOD’s posts are anywhere near what would match that definition. OTOH, HMS’s posts are very pessimistic, leaving one to wonder why they should even try to make strides in states like Georgia, if it’s already a foregone conclusion that those efforts will be wasted.
You are undoubtedly right. But this is the Pit. It’s literally the only place in my life where, when someone is acting like a supercilious asshole, I don’t need to mince words and take deep breaths and speak calmly and lovingly to them. I can just tell them what an asshole they’re being.
