No we’re not!
We are all individuals!
Well a few aren’t but we usually catch some of them and boot them.
It’s one of the beautiful outcomes of a party beholden to the idea of political and ideological purity tests.
You do realize that is both parties? Right?
How many moderate Republicans has the current Republican Party driven out?
Hell, I’m one. Do you remember the Rockefeller Republicans? They’re extinct now?
Yes. Modern politics and modern communications has resulted in the unfortunate trend of apparent increased polarization. Unfortunately, without a major structural change it’s hard to see a way to reverse that.
I wish I had an optimistic answer to that. I sadly don’t.
So… the fact that that those on the left disagree is proof that they are all a hive mind who never disagree.
OK then.
Those darned liberals are in lockstep about having varied opinions and viewpoints. Hive mind!
I disagree that we are not in agreement.
I have read that if a solitary intruder – say a wasp – is found in a honeybee hive, several workers will clamp onto its appendages, immobilizing it, then dozen or so others pile on and rapidly vibrate their wings creating enough heat from their thoracic muscles to cook the intruder to death.
Yeah, not at all like the all-together-let’s-sing-kumbaya past. Starving Artist called, he wants his tired argument back…
Eh, sort of- it’s only a specific subspecies of bee, Apis cerana japonica- Japanese honey bees, and it’s not against all intruders. Something a similar size to themselves like a wasp, they’d just shred it (if they noticed it at all- often once they get past the guards, the other bees just assume they’re supposed to be there and ignore them), it’s for the giant Asian hornet that they use the balling defence where they cook it, as it’s way bigger than a bee, but its heat tolerance is lower than theirs. See video with terribly posh English voiceover.
I actually had one of the guys who dicovered how it worked as a supervisor at uni for a while.
Anyway, after that brief nature interlude, back to the insults.
And a delightful interlude it was. Thank you.
A. mellifera (honeybees) do use balling to kill off supersedured queens, though.
They do ball queens sometimes, but I’ve not heard that it’s a heat thing like with hornets, just a mobbing response. Can I ask for cites in the pit? I mean, it could be, I’ve just never seen any research on it and I’m curious now.
So, if I’m understanding this thread correctly, we’re all going to stand next to CastletobSnob and have arguments with each other so heated that they’re cooked?
It is the way.
How else do you BBQ?
