I had glasses like that. One time, I tried to get this black guy to try them on. He said “okay”, and they looked damn good on him.
Too much bread, not enough meat.
All dough and bones.
Well this is the guy who thinks funding the fire department is an act barbarianism.
There are rules on how disgusting a concept you can express, even in the Pit! Have you no decency, man?!
Challenge: Name a long-term, iconic conservative whose death would warrant the better-than-usual treatment Kennedy has gotten.
The William F. Buckley thread rousted a number of avowed liberals who lamented his passing.
ETA: Also, let me just add that Senator Kennedy’s passing marks the end of an er, ahh.
Challenge: Name a long-term, iconic conservative whose death would warrant the better-than-usual treatment Kennedy has gotten.
John McCain.
Ones he was noted as writing or being a major contributor to:
Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965
National Cancer Act of 1971
Federal Election Campaign Act Amendments of 1974
COBRA Act of 1985
Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
Ryan White AIDS Care Act in 1990
Civil Rights Act of 1991
National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993
Mental Health Parity Act in 1996 and 2008
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act in 1996
State Children’s Health Insurance Program in 1997
Air Transportation Safety and System Stabilization Act 2001
No Child Left Behind Act in 2002
Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act 2003
Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act in 2009
Don’t forget the No Woman Left Behind Act of 1969.
No, wait a minute, that wasn’t Kennedy’s.
Sure. He’s influential in American politics and knows how to motivate his base. When he speaks it is with conviction.
It doesn’t make much sense to praise someone for being good at something that you think is wrong in the first place.
You wouldn’t praise the Algemeine SS because they ran the train scheduling so efficiently when shipping people off to concentration camps.
Godwin!

I don’t recall much, if any, unpleasantness from US liberals when Reagan passed away. When Colin Powell dies we’ll nearly all say nice things (which will have nothing to do with his endorsement of Obama). We all liked John McCain until he ran a dirty campaign. Bush I will be openly mourned. Nobody had anything bad to say about Gerald Ford.
Is that enough to be going on with?
John McCain.
My first thought as well. He is not aligned with me politically but I won’t really have much of a bad thing to say about him when he’s dead. That deal with his first wife was unfortunate, but overall it’s one minor foible in a generally decent and good man.

I agree – and I’d like to add that if anything, it’s Sarah Palin that I really was disgusted by.

Bob Dole?
It’s funny. I’m having a tough time naming a living long-term iconic conservative.
At least he killed that Mary Jo Kopechne bitch.
Lord help me, I actually laughed out loud.
I’m a greencard holder because of a bill sponsored by Mr. Kennedy.
Not sure if that goes in the good or the bad column.
So, anyway, I sometimes bop over to a site called Sadly, No!. A bit leftish, and dedicated to documenting the madness and cognitive chaos of our shared enemy, the Forces of Darkness. I won’t even link to it, standard liberal cooty protocols would be useless against the HiveMind Brain Weevils.
But, as I suggested, they offer choice bits of rightarded blather, from semi-professional blatherskates. Including this gem…

What They Won’t Mention About Ted Kennedy: Treason
…I regret this today because it make sit that much harder to communicate the great disservice Edward Kennedy do to this nation years ago, as he conspired with our country’s greatest enemy in an attempt to undermine a sitting President
The gist is that Teddy conspired with the head of the KGB and Secretary Yuri Andropov to the intentional detriment of American security. I swear, I am not making this up…
Weak ass pitting. If you don’t realize how hard it is for those right of center to like or respect Ted Kennedy of all people, you don’t understand politics. How will you feel when Cheney kicks the bucket, are you going to give faint praise. Ted K has been the poster boy for liberals for 4 decades. Of course a large part of the country strongly disliked him or hated him.

I can understand people not liking him. There is plenty or reason for people to hate him. Even those who have had to debate against him on the senate floor have liked and respected him.
When Cheney dies I will probably not speak praise of him nor will I claim there is nothing good to say about him. It would be ignorant to claim there was nothing good to say about him.
This board pledges to fight ignorance I thought it appropriate to pit such an ignorant comment.

I dunno. ATC interviewed a refusenik whose infant daughter needed to come to the US for treatment. He told how Teddy came to his apartment, told his KGB handlers to leave–WHICH THEY DID!–then told the guy that he’d try to get the guy’s family to the US for treatment.
I could only think that the only way he could order the KGB out of the room was if he were high-ranking in the Soviet hierarchy.
Or a Kennedy, and back in the 70s that name held an unimaginable amount of mojo the world over. I think this was the reason.
Yes, of course! And he would be the perfect conduit to John Kerry for secret instructions!
