What makes you think that people will pay a lot of money for flowers that are growing everywhere? Why would people who want those flowers not go out and get them themselves, without paying for them?

I see people sell stuff at family reunions all the time. I have bought and sold stuff at them, so have relatives and friends. Maybe this is a regional or cultural difference. Many of you guys don’t seem all that familiar or fond with the idea of “hustling”.
Many of us acknowledge that “hustling” is a term with almost universally negative connotations, and the fact that you’re trying to sell it as a positive thing seems naive at best.
What’s the going rate for bullshit these days? Or “manure,” if you prefer.
If you’re hoping to stumble upon a field full of free tulips and roses, you’re shit out of luck. Also, before you waste your time and energy looking into it: they aren’t mined out of the ground like ore. Just a head’s up.

I think what needs to happen here is
Someone needs to talk Diamonds02 into taking a regular job by convincing him it’s a brilliant hustle that hardly involves any work. And yes, I got the idea from that Key & Peele sketch.
Otherwise I think Diamonds02 is just going to keep trying to use the SDMB to crowdsource harebrained schemes.
Actually, that gave me a fairly serious suggestion for Diamons02: composting manure. Most horse stables and cattle ranchers have a disposal problem with all the manure/waste bedding. In fact, I believe they may pay to have it cleaned up and removed, so you could undercut whoever is doing it currently (or get it for free) and then pile it up in your backyard*. Let it ripen and compost for a few months, then sell it to gardeners.
- Let’s assume you have no neighbors for a few miles, don’t live in an HOA, etc. Let’s also assume you’re OK with giant piles of fresh shit in your yard.
I think most of us are familiar with hustling; usually it isn’t a positive experience (i.e. it’s someone trying to take advantage of us and/or cheat us).
See? I take a lot of shit, but I knew that eventually my snark would help improve someone’s life.
To be fair, the term “side hustle” is used in NYC and it doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad or illegal. It means something you do for extra cash that isn’t your day job. “Hustle” in this sense can be can-do/try-hard spirit, as it is sometimes used by sports coaches (I wanna see some hustle out there!).
That doesn’t make Diamonds02 not an idiot, but it’s a valid regionalism having nothing to do with con jobs.

This budgeting blog invites readers to describe their side hustles. As you can see they’re all terribly legal and ordinary.
I was thinking more of finding someone who has access to these precious petals and building a relationship with them and going from there. I already have some free access to soil, chemicals, and lighting equipment, since I posted that thread last week.

That’s called “commercial fishing” and as has been explained, the reason it is regulated is to prevent all those other people from taking all the fish and leaving absolutely nothing behind to reproduce. Reference: every animal that has been hunted/fished to extinction in the absence of regulations
That’s called “farming”. Plants reproduce by seed (most often), which you must plant n the ground, water, tend and harvest. The trick is, most farmers own (or lease) the ground with the plants growing in it. If you take plants of any value from ground owned by other people (including ground owned by local, state or federal authorities), then you are stealing. There are laws against stealing.
