His “facts” on the Texas Revolution wouldn’t pass muster with a seventh-grade Texas history student. And I say that as the product of a Texas education system that does its damndest to justify and glorify Texas independence.
I’m so grateful to the posters who are pushing back on Hawai’i history, because I just don’t have the energy to deal with his wildly inaccurate characterizations. But he’s so far off base he’s in the next county. I have no idea where he gets that stuff.

I am concerned that DD is on one of his upswings in annoying behavior and direct attacks. I know I’m in the minority in thinking he’s more valuable than not in this thread, but considering the sheer number of warnings, suspensions, and other reasons for him to be on thin ice, I wish he’d take a voluntary break from posting until he gets his head together. 'Cause otherwise, I think he’s pushing (deliberately or not) for another INvoluntary break, and considering the past, a possible perpetual one.
ETA - simulpost with DD earning a warning, thread ban and suspension for just the sort of behavior I was worried about.
He is suspended for at least a day and maybe it is finally time to ban him. He has become too much of a problem.

I won’t get too into it if he’s on his way out of here, but he really steamed me in that American empire thread by misciting sources to rebut my (entirely correct) refutation of his contention that the Mexican Constitution provided Texas an exemption from the ban on slavery.
That is part of my “indistinguishable from trolling” complaint in the modloop.
I think we’ve given him too many chances.
The benefit of keeping him is his uniting nature. In these turbulent times, it’s nice that there’s one thing so many of us agree on. Honestly, I kind of enjoy sharing outrage with all you bunch.

DD is definitely a troll. I had to put him on ignore due to his habit of taking what I said and pretending I said the opposite. It’s infuriating and since I can’t call him out for that shit in a thread without getting a warning, the only recourse is to make his posts vanish.
He’s a toxic boil and he’s overdue to be lanced from this board.
His whole argument was that the Texians didn’t revolt over slavery. Which is dumb, but maybe there’s a debate to be had over how much of a root cause it was. But he has to be unequivocally right, so he makes up this “exception” for Texas in the Mexican Constitution to show that slavery couldn’t possibly have been an issue for the Texians since it was constitutionally protected.
When called out on it, he disingenuously drops quotes from cites that seem to back him up, but if you actually read beyond his carefully curated excerpts those cites actually say the opposite of what he’s arguing. There was never any “Texas exception” in the Mexican Constitution, and what short delay they were granted in being subject to abolition was understood by all to be only a temporary reprieve. Securing the legality of slavery as an institution was absolutely a key driver of the revolution.
And he’s right back at it in the “What will it take to allow Cuba to prosper?” thread in IMHO. Makes a false claim, gets corrected on it, “refutes” the correction with selective passages from a Wiki article that don’t actually back his argument, and then pretends that he was saying something else all along.
Please flag.
