You’re really kind of a jerk, aren’t you? Look, I give you credit (well, not you, since I don’t think I saw any posts from you until after the evidence came in) for sniffing something out that I didn’t, but prior to seeing the sezyoo evidence, it was hasty to definitively conclude anything.
Those of you who were always skeptical, really, I am impressed. Especially those of you who identified something was amiss and posted about it. And I am glad you went out and actually found something that supports the troll hypothesis. But the smugness from those who absolutely “knew” all along, please.. Hunches are not always right, even if it was here.
Or instead of trolling she might consider writing fiction, where she can use her talent for developing believable quad characters in a legitimate manner. Her expertise on the subject, along with her desire to educate, inspire, and entertain could be a very positive thing. And there is no shame in being a creative storyteller like there is in being a troll.
I totally would have been more suspicious sooner if I hadn’t kept reminding myself that I hate and mistrust all perky people with perfect-seeming lives, but that some people really are like that.
She was careful to point out her faults too, I assume as a conscious effort to not seem *too *perfect. But even her faults were like, “teehee, I can be so adorably stubborn sometimes” and “I admit I can get a little grumpy at times”. Sezyoo was **exactly **like this too.
Some of the commenters in those threads mention that prior to “sezyoo” posting to the WTE board, s/he had made an appearance (and been outed) on an “HB” forum. Anyone know what that is? TIA!
Yep, that’s the attitude I was talking about in my earlier post.
I know you weren’t targeting anyone in particular, but in my case I merely stated that my BS meter twinged a bit and it caused me not to post in that thread.
How long will it take for them to ban her? I admit I completely believed in her, did not see all the BS, loved her for her attitude, etc., etc. Told my husband about her. I find it sad that she faked us out but it does not at all ruin my day or week. As Rand said, when you post on a message board you need to rearrange your psyche to accept that people might not be who they say they are. I find it a fascinating learning experience, both about trolls and about quadriplegia. I also feel very sorry for her, or him, whoever he/she really is. How f*cked (heh) up do you have to be to do that ? Anyway, it’s a little amusing that after reading sezyoo’s posts there is anyone left not completely convinced that **umkay **is fake-- her posting style is slightly different than sezyoo’s, perfectly appropriately to fit into each board. The details are overwhelmingly the same and do NOT apply to all quads (her special very expensive bed, her special very expensive shower chair, etc. etc.) Also, as a side note, I thought she picked very well when she said “bankers” - obviously investment bankers, who can make shitloads of money. Ah, well.
She pinged my BS meter early on, which is why I asked her about what she remembered about the SCI sex video, since I hVe seen it several times and would know if she made up a detail. She never answered. I even chatted with another doper about my suspicions. As for posting something, my suspicions weren’t atrong enough.
It wasn’t even that it was fucking obvious to anyone with a grain of scepticism that “she” was way too perfect, it’s that the 14 year old girl level of gushing towards “her” - O YOU’RE SO BRAVE AN INSPIRING - was downright embarrassing, and after her resurrection, some of it bordered on the creepily masturbatory. Some people here need to step away from their keyboards for a good long time and recalibrate their view of reality.
While I will confess to a morbid curiosity (tinged with a pinch of pitch-fork-carrying out-for-revenge mob-mentality), it’s too hot and muggy for me to actually get off my duff and conduct a (“meta”?) search of the intrawebz for skumyazoo’s favorite phrases. (In other words, his/her “tells”.)
I encourage the more tenacious cyber-sleuths amongst our august body to conduct such a search and report back. Then we can have fun ruining skumyazoo’s attempts to troll other boards by posting link’s to his/her previous attempts at messing with people’s heads.

One thing in umkay’s favour: at least she portrayed herself as independently wealthy, and didn’t make constant references to how hard up she was financially, and how she just needed $x00 for this expense, $y00 for that. Small amounts, that people feel like they could help with even though she hasn’t asked, so when she’s eventually called out for being a troll she can protest innocence and claim she never asked anyone for anything. That would be a far worse kind of troll.
Speaking as someone who gushed at her – and yes, I feel dumb about it now – the interesting part is that in order for her to write the way she does, she actually probably is an intelligent and somewhat interesting person, right? I mean, she really does have an engaging narrative voice, agreed? Granted if I were to go back and read the posts and what I find interesting about her voice now, I suppose all of what I read will be about quadriplegia/reactions to it/her amazing attitude, etc. So she is probably a crazy devotee or something – but she actually really should write a book (preferably a fiction book) because I think people would read it. (Maybe she is writing one and that part was true.) Is her engaging-ness typical of trollish craziness? I wasn’t around for the Wally debacle. When I came here in 2002, his smiley still existed but I think he was not outed yet, not sure. I never read his posts.
Farmer Jane, I think you’re just being snarky, but I’m looking for a serious answer. Does she or does she not have an engaging narrative voice? I would like to know what people think. Do I think that she does only because the subject matter was so freaking wonderful and amazing and perfect, etc.? Or does she anyway?
Some people crave attention, others want to save the world and give moral support to the disabled/ poor disadvantaged people in order to feel morally superior. Since both sides got their fix not much harm was done. Even the cynics can celebrate with Hannum: “There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute”
