Maybe it’s the defense lawyer in me, but I think you’d agree that if umkay posted tonight and said, “Look, I’m not responsible for what some idiots said on another board, and the details you’re seizing on are superficial. But I get the skepticism, and I’ll just hold off on discussing wheelchairs and catheters for now,” and spent the next month being a contributing poster… surely you’d regard that as meaningful, yes?
And I clearly acknowledge that if instead she simply never posts again, then it’s pretty clear there was a connection.
So is there some reason I have to commit to a more definitive position now?
The next month? No. Honestly, after a whole year of contributing regular non-troll posts to the Dope, I might – MIGHT – consider her a useful poster here, but I still won’t believe that she didn’t make up all that crap about being quadriplegic, the rich family, the devote boyfriend, etc. She was trolling us. She got caught out. Accept it.
Can I be honest? For a split second, I thought it umkay might have been you. 
Unbelievably, I have to place myself in the Bricker camp here. I have serious doubts about umkay’s non-trolliness, given the evidence that’s been presented. I do know, though, that the only real way to dismiss doubts (for some of the more gullible among us) is to at least respond in some way.
I definitely enjoyed the “Ask the…” thread. I thought it was a little sycophantic at points. I’m not gonna be all “some of my best friends are…” but I’ve known enough people with disabilities that I’m usually more surprised by those who throw in the towel and give up on life rather than those who soldier on like everyone else. One thing is certain, though - Broomstick definitely helped a poster whose dad was suffering in a VA hospital. So that’s one positive of the whole thing.
I’m pretty impressed with the research skills of some Dopers. Unless… this is a contrivance created to get me to say how impressed I am with your ability to root out trolls! Oh man. I need to sit down.

And if umkay is in fact a troll, I don’t even have much hate for him/her, only pity and bewilderment. What kind of sad life one must have to waste so much time coming up with not one, but two (or more) very detailed false lives over the course of months.
Or she’s just embarrassed. I know I would be, and might not want to post for a while, if ever.
Well, to be fair, it’s only one life, really, isn’t it? Which is why this whole Umkerfuffle (love it!) is now 99.9% resolved.

IF there is an umkay out there, she would definitely at least respond to the whole sezyoo business - she made statements defending herself before the evidence became substantial. If she doesn’t come back (which I assume heavily), I for one am fairly comfortable to call her fake.

I get the impression that even if umkay showed up and announced that the whole thing was a fake and she’s really a car salesman living in New Jersey, some of you would be like, “No! She’s only saying that because she was pressured into it! Umkay is real! She has to be!!!”
