Does it get any more dishonest than this? I have no problem with people who feel that pro-life inevitably means anti-women. I disagree, especially if that’s used as a litmus test for a person or a candidate, but I can understand the point of view.
But claims of neutrality? Give me a break!
Yeah, i was pretty amazed at that.
I’m actually on NOW’s email list, and have been for a few years, and i constantly receive emails from them asking me to support one Democratic candidate or another, and during the election season it’s been very clear which party they are supporting. The fact that they have only, this week, officially endorsed a candidate doesn’t mean they were neutral before.
They should have just come out and endorsed Obama, and left out the claims of neutrality.
Have they endorsed any pro-choice Republican candidates?

I’m not sure about the neutrality, but there are many reasons that feminists don’t support Palin; it isn’t just that she’s pro-life. She supports abstinence-only sex education, she sees marriage as a valid solution to teen pregnancy, and under her term as mayor, rape victims in her town were forced to pay for their evidence collection kits.
Not to mention that she would be a huge embarrassment to women as the first female VP.
It makes sense for NOW to endorse candidates that are likely to promote policies they want; I don’t know why they’d even pretend to be neutral.
Let me add to this my pet peeve about whenever “EMILY’s List” is mentioned in a newspaper article. It is always described as “an organization which supports women candidates”. No- it is an organization which supports pro-choice women candidates.
I think that NOW is a not-for-profit entity–that status would be endangered by getting too involved in political campaigns.

Considering that John McCain has actually come out against equal pay for equal work, and that Sarah Palin’s response to the shitstorm that hit NOW’s favorded candidate was “work harder,” I’m not even surprised.
No, it is because she comes across as an idiot in her speeches and interviews.
How about because she is clueless about major national issues, let alone foreign policy. For some of us at least it has nothing to do with her not “following in goosestep” (by which I assume you mean “lockstep” – you might want to check the definitions on those two terms, sport). For some of us, when we do finally see a woman as president or vice-president of this nation, we’d really, really like it if she were intellectually honest, impeccably qualified, and undeniably capable. Those things are simply not true of Governor Palin, and, as a result, some of us feel she is liable to be an embarrasment and more likely to set back women’s progress than advance it. That may or may not make us cunts.
The Minnesota Chapter of NOW has endorsed other parties – there are several Green Party candidates they have endorsed. But I can’t find any Republicans endorsed in the last 8 years – but then, around here, we hardly have any pro-choice Republican candidates.
If they are pro-choice, the local Republicans simply will not endorse them. In fact, they refused to endorse for re-election a six-year State Senator, because she was (semi) pro-choice. She was re-elected anyway, and eventually caucused with the Democrats.
