The front page of the local rag had a lengthy article that is an eye-opener about Palin’s religious affiliations. Here. You may need to do a free registration to read it. Apparently, we’re a “refuge” state for the apocolypse and hundreds of thousands of Christians will be coming here for salvation. This broad is a whack job, friends and neighbors. It’s no wonder the RNC won’t allow the press to get anywhere hear her.
Yep, no way that reminding the public of the issue of nutty pastors could possibly backfire on Obama.
It doesn’t really matter, Palin or no Palin I don’t think the Oval office is in the cards for the Republicans this time around.
What’s good for one is fodder for the other. However, it won’t stop the Pubbies from crying ‘foul’ when someone uses their own agenda against them.
shrug I’ve seen them use the issue of experience against him, walk right into that minefield, and feel like they’re on top.
Exactly, let’s see how far the Democrats want to go with the nutty religion angle. Do they really want to talk about this again when it is mostly behind them?
Moving whack job from IMHO to The BBQ Pit.
Oh, goody! There were, at one point in time on Friday, seventeen (Count 'em sevenFUCKINGteen) threads relating to Palin on the front page of GD.
The woman must have some real mo-jo. Even GWB at his finest couldn’t make the demmies shit their britches like Palin is doing.
Yep, it’s a real puzzler why the left is getting so knotted up about this heretofore largely unknown and vastly underqualified VP pick. Except for the piddling bit about her being pretty much diametrically opposed to every single Democratic ideal. At least John McCain can claim to have bipartisan urges from time to time. Ms. Palin is just some sort of macabre cross between Ted Nugent and Anne Coulter.
It makes the cynically minded among us wonder if one of her primary qualifications for the nomination was the likelihood that it would stir up the Dems and bring the level of the campaign down to something the Pubs could feel more comfortable with. It sure worked on Bricker.
Both articles linked make me happier than ever to vote for Palin. This election season is more fun than I would have ever dreamed!
So you’re happy at the prospect of a person being a step away from the presidency who wants creationism taught in schools (despite SCOTUS rulings saying it may not be), who opposes equal rights on the basis of sexual orientation (vetoing a restriction of partner benefits only under threat of court order), who believes in keeping children ignorant about sex and sexuality, who lied in her acceptance speech about, among other things, opposing the “Bridge to Nowhere” (when she actually supported it), opposing earmarks (when she secured $720 million of them for Alaska in two years, including the BTN money which she didn’t return, just spent on other things), opposing Ted Stevens despite heading up a 527 in his name, who is in favor of banning books, who believes rape victims should be forced to carry to term, who is under investigation for alleged criminal abuse of power and trying to move the investigation to the jurisdiction of a board whose members are answerable to her as the governor, who bankrupted the town of which she was mayor, thinks Alaskan secession is an idea worth exploring and whose pastor wants to convert homosexuals with prayer and who believes that Alaska is a pre-destined Christian refuge for the end times?
You’re completely fucked up and stupid.
Oh, the irony, it burns.
The level of outrage makes me expect a large anti Palin backlash. Democrats should have no problem turning out their army of new members.
It’s probably good that the Dems are reacting vigorously as opposed to sitting back and laughing at the Wasilla Hillbillies.
Not hillbillies. We refer to them as “valley trash”.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Stuff like this undoubtedly helped:
You evangelicals are lost. And I mean that in a good, old-fashioned, evangelical religious sense.
You will vote for your tribeswoman because she’s one of yours. That she’s a habitual liar (you know, “thou shalt not bear false witness” - does that ring any bells?) and a petty tyrant doesn’t enter into your calculations. Nor does the way she used her daughter as a shield to deflect an Internet rumor, when she could have used her own medical records to the same end. And do I need to mention her repeatedly playing Russian roulette with the life of her unborn child, just so he could be born in Alaska? But she’s “pro-life.” :snork:
You are lost. What you have is a tribal religion, only with better clothing and technology. But in spirit, you might as well be worshipping at a Canaanite hill shrine.
When John McCain announced his running mate, I googled her then said ho hum.
When she gave her convention speech I said ho hum twice.
Maybe I missed something.
For a VP nominee who can only be described as a zero, she sure has your panties in a bunch.
I can understand the loathing.
What I don’t understand is the fear. You guys sound like she’s already in the White House waiting for McCain to choke on a pretzel.
If the pubs win, then you can put your hairshirts on and beat your breasts.
In the meantime, chill the fuck out already.
Or at least start a thread or two on Biden just for the sake of balance.
Y’know, I find picking Palin more ludicrous by the day, but I gotta agree with Hawkins here. Don’t get all riled up. There will come a time when she has to face the music. Let’s see what the Republicans think about her after the VP debate. After the press forces her to start answering questions or she gets written off as an empty suit.
This is the Republicans’ mess; let them sweat it out. Anyone who thinks that religious fanatacism is an easy sell to the American public is in for a rude awakening, methinks.
You guys are right - when Palin does stuff that’s stupid or dishonest or immoral, we should just ignore it. The fact that she does so much of it really shouldn’t enter into it: there’s an appropriate quota of Palin talk here on the Dope, and we’ve filled it for the time being, so we should STFU about her, no matter what else comes out about her.
