Because in this Goofus and Gallant scenario you have chosen the Goofus option and decided that scolding a potential ally is a good idea.
The question was not “For what reasons might you yell at somebody?” It was whether you would yell at somebody for a very specific reason. And of course you wouldn’t, because you think it’s a stupid reason. And that would have been a completely valid response. But you responded with
when nowhere in that scenario is that mentioned until you brought it up.
That was post #1115. In post #1169 the encounter is with what is described as “a group of people.” Nothing in the latter post gives any indication that these people bear any connection to the people in the first.
You’ve upset me. I was going to vote for the Democrats. But now I’m all in on Trump.
Then you are missing parts of the conversation. I keep bringing it back to “trans-hating-assholes” because that is who Little_Nemo specifically pointed out is someone they would happily shake hands with.
…and just for the sake of clarity, I’m not in the habit of allowing people I’m debating to “vague-post” their way out of an argument. You don’t get to slip from something very specific to hypotheticals about general groups of people.
Little_Nemo said they would shake hands with trans-hating-assholes who have stated they will be voting against Trump. That’s a very specific group of people.
This is correct. The only thing I would dispute is that I would do so “happily”. I would in fact, greatly dislike shaking hands with a trans-hating asshole. But my position in this thread is that opposition to Trump is more important than personal feelings.
You have clearly never had the experience of being a stigmatized minority. It’s more than “feelings.” Being a de facto second-class citizen sucks.
I had a hard time voting for Hillary Clinton because I remember her husband’s support for DoMA back in the 90s, a law that ultimately pushed me to emigrate while people like you didn’t notice because you were too busy shaking hands with the devil.
We were acceptable fodder for compromise, and that was not okay. Not that anyone is going to apologize beyond “I guess it sucks to be you.”
That isn’t a matter of hurt feelings. It’s quite literally a matter of people’s lives. To dismiss that because you don’t think your personal life is threatened is — you started this in the Pit — fucking reprehensible.
I fully agree that having any Americans being second class citizens sucks. Everyone should have full equality.
Trump and the Republicans are the ones who are promoting discrimination and they want more of it. Which is why I feel getting them out of power is so important.
It would be wonderful if the Democrats could be trusted to effectively oppose what the Republicans are doing, but I do not trust them to do that without a lot of public pressure, which comes from the sort of people you are trying to discourage.
Despite that flag on his Ballotpedia entry that says “Democratic Party,” everything else I can find on him (including the details of his candidacies on Ballotpedia) says that he is, in fact, a Republican – including your second link.
Thank you for that clarification. It would have been helpful, in your prior post, to have noted that, rather than suggest that a legitimate Democratic politician had made that horrific Auschwitz post.
Technically, but as you said, he’s running a false-flag operation. In most states, anyone can file to run for a party primary, even if they are not actually party members or in line with the party platform.
His views are certainly not Democratic orthodoxy, and your prior post essentially said, “here’s this Democrat with this horrid view,” with no context.
The problem is that Democratic orthodoxy only means anything if Democrats are willing to state their values and stick to them, and many of them are failing at that. If enough people think like Little_Nemo, then the only actual Democratic value at the moment is ‘win’.
It has everything to do with him. He can run his false flag operation because Gavin Newsom has been throwing trans and unhoused folks under the bus, and palling around with fascists on his radio show.
