I pit over-the-top Anti-Trump hysteria

Probably because you couldn’t find more than two or three people to agree with you argument, which was rather dumb, all things considered.

…as I said, I kept my posts circling back to the original general point of this thread, which was how to get people to vote for the Dems at the next election. That people focused on just a single aspect of my much larger point isn’t on me.

Actually I feel there were a significant number of people who agreed with my point that hysterical allegations and personal attacks are not persuasive forms of argument. There were unfortunately also a number of people who felt that the most persuasive argument they were capable of was hysterical attacks and personal attacks.

The people in the first group did not wish to participate in a discussion with the people in the second group. Which I feel is evidence in support of my point. Driving people away is not a real victory in an argument where you’re trying to convince people to join your cause.

I’d love to see how you got that from the OP.

I apologize if I wasn’t clear.

In the OP, I said that Trump is evil and stupid. I called him a terrible human being and the worst President in our nation’s history. I said that he should be in prison. And I said that the Republicans are trying to destroy democracy.

I want to make it clear that I believe these are bad things. Not good things. So I believe people should be opposing Trump and the Republicans.

Again, sorry if I caused you any confusion.

Yeah, well said. You are correct.

Yes, I did find you answering the question that was addressed to Banquet_Bear very confusing.

…I said general. It quickly morphed into if the OP’s approach isn’t the right one, then what is?

And my argument from the start is that we should be listening to the voters and giving them something to vote for. Which was what the point of the tangent was. It kept close to the spirit of this thread, albeit extremely tangentially.

Where are we now? We are arguing something else entirely. Which the OP seems to be fine with.

It (the OP), generally, had nothing to do with how to get people to vote for the Dems at the next election.
It entirely was about not characterizing what Trump is doing in ways the OP disapproves of because it helps Trump make the crimes he is committing seem less serious.

…It’s a good thing I said ‘thread’ then and not specifically the OP. Because thread has been all over the place.

Was not what you are claiming. Or do you not comprehend the meaning of original? That this thread has taken many turns does not change the original point of this thread, conveniently reiterated just a few posts above, by the OP.

I’m sure you do, but what many posters didn’t agree with was the entire premise of your post, myself included. And now, that makes us all “hysterical”. Fuck off with that bullshit.

No, you seem to lean more towards the personal attacks.

And you seem to not know what a personal attack is. I’ve attacked the content of your posts, not you personally.

I apologize if I misinterpeted posts like this as a personal attack.

Thank you for clarifying that you know what personal attacks are and you don’t make them.

Boy, you really don’t want my swing state vote, do you? You spend so much time shitting on it. Weird strategy!

Hakeem Jeffries doesn’t seem to want it, either:
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5849707-democrats-decline-trump-impeachment/

“We believe in this country, you work hard, you play by the rules. You should be able to live an affordable life, a comfortable life, in fact, to live the good life, and that means a good paying job and good housing, good health care, good education for your children, and when it’s all said and done, a good retirement,” he added.

He doesn’t seem to understand that “play by the rules” has no meaning unless rules are enforced, and this strategy will demoralize Democratic voters. But hey, maybe they can pick up a few Republicans who also believe in lack of accountability!

Gavin Newsom doesn’t want my vote because I’m not “culturally normal” enough.
More scolding from Democrats who seem to prefer Republicans to their current base.

So a promise of working for good pay, good housing, good health care, good education, a good retirement, and obeying the law doesn’t inspire you.

What would it take to inspire you?

Not. Calling. People. Fucking. Hysterical. For. Worrying. About. Trump.

Try not being a dick, and not telling me you don’t need me, and not acting like people don’t have valuable things to contribute just because they disagree with you.

I don’t believe Democrats can deliver on any of those promises right now. And frankly, I think they are going to go for a rug sweep on the whole Trump admin, and that will not work.

But since you asked, and in case a person who cares is reading this at any point:

  • Stop confirming Trump appointments. You say this is an emergency, a big enough one to scold people about, you need to act like it
  • Show up at ICE concentration camps, and/or trials and make trouble. Chris Van Hollen and Brad Lander both won my attention this way, and I have high regard for them
  • Keep impeaching. Threaten impeachment for cabinet members, too. Fail? OK. Keep doing it anyway, if you ever want voters to believe you.
  • Don’t throw trans people under the bus
  • Don’t throw women under the bus
  • Don’t throw anyone under the bus. We should be the party that upholds everyone’s rights because that is how our values work.
  • Don’t sexually harass people. Not behind their back, not to their face!
  • Don’t defend sexual predators and pests from public criticism and shaming

I’m sure I could think of a few more, but that’s probably too many already.

Mercy’s sake, how’d this response get into this thread? ?

[ETA: Extended threadjack relocated by mods, the right choice, sorry about that.]
