Try not being a dick, and not telling me you don’t need me, and not acting like people don’t have valuable things to contribute just because they disagree with you.

I’m not saying we don’t need you. We do need you and people like you. We need as many people as possible if we’re going to have a chance of defeating the Republicans and Trump.

But here’s the thing. That part about needing as many people as possible means we also need people who aren’t like you.

Are you willing to tolerate people who disagree with you on many issues if they are willing to vote against the Republicans?

I grew up in a conservative place. I don’t have a problem if you try to appeal to them, unless you are doing it by punching left. Suck them off as much as you like! But don’t try to win them by scolding me. Don’t try to teach me some kind of goddamn lesson about knowing my place. Don’t go around trying to impress them with your contempt for me and mine.

I can see the sealioning issue. But I’m not trolling. My goal here is to communicate with people not set them off.

And the message I’m communicating is you need to be able to have a polite discussion with people, even when you disagree with something they’re saying. So as part of that, I’ve tried to remain polite with people in this thread even when I disagree with what they’re saying.

Calling people hysterical. The language you use is entirely within your control, and you have chosen to double down on something that you have been told is inflammatory and offensive.

If you choose to use language that offends, you will get people angry at you. It’s the way people work.

Okay, then let’s get back on the issues I described in the OP.

Let’s say there are some people who believe Trump and the Republicans are committing genocide. They think we should vote against Trump and the Republicans.

And let’s say there are some people who don’t believe Trump and the Republicans are committing genocide. They also think we should vote against Trump and the Republicans.

You belong in one of these two groups. You meet a person who belongs in the other group. How would you converse with this person on the issue of Trump and the Republicans?

Would you argue with them over the topic of genocide, on which the two of you disagree? Or would you avoid the topic of genocide and discuss your shared view that we should be voting against Trump and the Republicans?
