Is it just me or is this just totally inappropriate? I mean really. This pisses me off.
And tactically stupid. The crowd is much larger in the beginning and more concentrated.
That’s what it is suppose to do.
We know next to nothing, so far. There is nothing written.
Fear Itself, you’re right. I shouldn’t let it get to me either - and you know what? I’ve gotten to the point where if it walks like an idiot, talks like an idiot, and posts like an idiot - THEY’RE AN IDIOT. Missy needs to let it go. And not respond.
Thanks for the perspective! And I mean that sincerely.
Why the fuck did the bomb-makers wrap their evil packages in ball bearings?
Yes, it’s mean. It’s sadistic. The sick fucker(s) behind this made these things with the intent to maim. Not just kill - maim. The intent was to shatter peoples’ bodies and take large parts off. Those not killed may suffer for a lifetime for the “crime” of being at a marathon.
What this person or persons has/have done is disgusting, and horrifying. But I can put that down to one or a few people being sick and crippled in the brain, evil or otherwise broken in some fashion.
What disgusts me about the human race is that less than twelve hours after this atrocity has occurred, once again the partisan bullshit lines in the sand are being drawn and that shit is being lobbed back and forth between both Liberals and Conservatives. It was disgusting after September 11, and it’s just as disgusting now. It can’t be enough to pull together, to help YOUR PEOPLE who are injured and dying, to help YOUR CITY that’s been wounded emotionally and physically. Nope. Gotta blame them durn Libruls fer tekkin’ our guns and those Mouth-Breathing Repugnicans for the War For Oil and turning AmeriKKKa into the most hated country on Earth.
Heal the wounds, find those responsible, bring them to justice. THEN if you have to, start lobbing epithets back and forth for political points.
I’m one of those folks not fully on board with some of our responses to terrorism. Iraq, for example.
But we are still far better than the terrorists. Our fighting men and women put their lives in danger, going en masse to foreign soil, flying the flag of our country, with the announced intention to kill those who are our enemies and render aid and assistance to everyone else. Our mission is then to come home safely, and if necessary, answer for anything we might have done wrong over there.
That is bravery.
A terrorist is the ultimate coward. Does not let his enemies know he is approaching, does not wear the emblem of his people or fly the flag of his country. Often times, their goal is to not even be at the scene of danger. Others, simply commit suicide during or after the act to avoid capture and punishment. Their goal is to render aid and assistance to no one, and simply cause untargeted damage to noncombatants. Their goal is to avoid answering for their crimes. And in their cause, they cannot seek to actually win. There is no military path to victory this way. They need not worry about whether their actions will help or harm their own people. They won’t be there to have to suffer through the consequences of the actions they’ve caused. They don’t have to answer to their own people when they lose a war.
The myth of the bravery of the terrorist is precisely that- a myth. Like the schoolyard bully, they only attack because they know they can avoid consequences. A smaller, weaker target won’t hurt him back. His parents probably never gave a damn. The school can give detention, which is the same as the rest of his school day- sit and learn nothing.
But the schoolyard bully still has a chance to redeem himself and become a productive member of society. The terrorist is just a cancer on society- he will be no part of the future. His actions will result in his own destruction, and backlash against his family and his people. His actions are directed at mindlessly damaging society itself. Having to face the future, having to face consequences, that is bravery.
The terrorist is a coward and avoids all repercussion for his own actions, and even avoids having to live with the guilt.
Whether the person(s) behind this are radical muslim terrorists or homegrown haters of the Federal government, or a lone psycho intent to cause harm for no reason, we do know one thing about them for certain: They’re scum of the earth, who kill children without showing their face.
They kill children without showing their face. I can’t think of a greater insult than that. How pathetic do you have to be? How could you possibly call yourself a warrior or a fighter? There is literally nothing lower on this earth.
. . . OK, men, the profile is fat, lazy and resentful . . .
Not fat, and two out of three don’t count.
But two out of three ain’t bad.
If you’re fat and lazy, you are letting your meat loaf.
(Sorry, can’t help it, its a kind of Tourette’s. But SnowBo provoked me, so its partly his fault!)
Damn. What news to wake up to. All the best to the survivors and their families.
Agreed. At very least, wait until we know who did it. Presumptive accusations – “Obviously, it would be YOUR side who did it!” – are absurd. Also unfair. Extremism is ideology without limits, and there are murderous extremists on the right, and left, and as far as I know, maybe the middle, too.
The right thing to do is to condemn all terrorism. I hope these bastards belong to an ideology very different from my own, but it doesn’t matter, because ALL terrorism is evil, whether it supports my views or attacks it.
Now, now, credit where it’s due. No matter what you believe about the afterlife, it takes one kind of courage to volunteer for a dangerous mission, and quite another kind to volunteer for a suicide mission.
The American Far-Right seems short on suicide-volunteers. Well, then, let it remain so.
Do you have a link to a story where the EMTs on their way to stop the bleeding of someone maimed in this attack stopped to argue politics on their way so the person died? I mean for fucks sake, quit pretending partisan bickering on a message board is important, like if we weren’t here we’d be out digging through the rubble and performing amputation surgeries. Yes, it’s stupid, but that’s an obnoxiously pompous high horse you’re on.
Anyway, as per usual with terrorist attacks, all I know is that whatever damage we choose to inflict upon ourselves as a result of this will be orders of magnitude greater than the actual damage of the terrorist attack. Hysteria and the politicians waiting to capitalize on it are the real danger here.
And especially to those losing limbs – or so I’ve read (speaks of “amputations”) – limbs are not lives, but they are important, especially to people who would come out to run in or watch a marathon.
There’s no courage whatsoever.
Everyone is going to die someday anyway. What committing suicide after a crime does is excuse yourself from any earthly punishment you are about to receive. There’s nothing brave about choosing to die instead of choosing to be captured, suffer, and then die. Nothing brave about it. Not even a shred.
It is the ultimate coward’s way out.
Well, that’s the whole point of terrorism, isn’t it?
In which case, maybe terrorism needs to be, y’know, a bit better thought-out . . . Never does seem to do the terrorists any good, nor anybody else . . .
