I pit the local hockey team

Because Disney doesn’t own the team anymore and they’re all grown men, I expect.

As someone that works and lives in the Chicago area and take the same commuter train line as Ponch, I can agree that sipping a beer or other alcoholic beverage on the way home is a lovely feature of my commute.

I dip my bindle in salute to you! Any time you want to borrow my canned bean spoon, just let me know (using a complicated rail hobo code).

**Ponch8 **- your favorite stuff sucks.

Post, user name, etc.

How does a guy who plays bar trivia in Chicago NOT know the name of the Stanley Cup, anyways? I’m assuming he got it wrong on purpose for hipster cred.

That makes no difference. Once I know about a team, they’re not allowed to change their name (I’m looking at you, California Angels. AND Boston Patriots).

I stopped reading right here.

:D:D:D

If not, I want to find this train. Sounds fun!

Chicago? Meh. Good thing you don’t live in Boston or Philadelphia…you probably wouldn’t be posting right now.

He wouldn’t need to – neither made the playoffs. (At least the Flyers didn’t, I can’t remember if the Bruins were knocked out of the first round) Not that that’s a bad thing.

Plus, I could actually get behind a Pitting of the Flyers.

Hockey rules, top 40 drools!

Here’s to hoping the Hawks win the West in 7!

Ever since hockey combined with kickboxing the sport has lost its appeal to me.

When was the last time you watched pro/NHL hockey?

Wayne Gretzky played in the NHL from 1979 to 1999, and is primarily responsible for changing the way the game is played. The teams actually play hockey now. The fans wanted their home teams to have their own Gretzky. The “Broad Street Bullys” and enforcer-type players are gone. Rough-and-tumble is still OK but the players better be known for their ability to skate, pass, and shoot, or they can take their fighting skills to kickboxing.

Fri May 29, 2015, Lightning vs Rangers, 8:00 PM (ET)
Sat May 30, 2015, Blackhawks vs Ducks, 7:00 PM (CT)

The game definitely started changing due to Gretzky’s finesse, but it’s only in the last year or two that teams finally gave up carrying an enforcer. They can’t afford to do that anymore. Teams that can roll all four lines have a definite advantage.

There’s still room for pesty troublemakers who get under the skin of the opposition, but they better be able to skate, pass and stay out of the penalty box.

Ah, c’mon, kickboxing really can’t afford to be losing fans.

Thanks for the reminder that all my Facebook feed and family texts will be “ZOMG GO BLACKHAWKS!!!” until that Stanley Cup is over. In the meantime, maybe I’ll watch the NBA playoffs.

Flyers fan chiming in…the Blackhawks by far have the best jerseys, especially their home jerseys. So there.

And playoff hockey is the best (if only the Flyers were actually, you know, participating :()…

Not for another week you won’t…

1975 feels like a long time ago, huh?
