That will be appreciated. I know how easy it is to be set off right now.
I’m glad John Oliver is done for the year. I can’t watch his show right now without getting much too angry.
The number of regular, longterm posters who do not think Trump’s election is a very bad thing is so small that they could all fit comfortably in my bathroom. Not that I want any of those people in my apartment- just theoretically, they could fit.
In these trying times, we all need a safe place where we can take a break from Trump.
Absolutely right.
Just to be clear: are you or are you not offering your bathroom for this venue?
Looking to Gibraltar for that.
I’ve been eying Malta myself.
I have my QTS, so the UK is easier for me. Otherwise Greece or Italy.
I would totally have started this thread, glad that kenobi_65 is more articulate than I am.
And as for an example of Trump being brought into unrelated threads, I started a thread questioning the sincerity of flat earthers and it scored 3 or 4 posts about Trump supporters before I requested a mod note quashing them. Thanks @puzzlegal!
Why? It’s not like you DON’T have to wait a half hour for the banana bread to bake, so you might as well use the time constructively, to heap imprecations upon the America-hating fuckstick and his fan club.
Since I was the one who complained in that thread, thank you, and it’s totally understandable. I’ve gotten sucked into off-track discussions too.
It’s a good discussion, and I’m still following it since it was moved. It’s just nice to be able to choose when I want to dive into Trump shit and when I want to avoid it.
I posted a couple of threads asking folk if they expected to change their consumption of news or their board participation since the election.
I’ve found it pretty easy to avoid the majority of Trump threads - the same way I decline to read stories about him in the paper. I follow a couple of threads that give me plenty of info. My putting a lot of effort into staying up on events before the election proved to be of no use. Now, I’m not going to even try to figure out what he MIGHT do. Instead, I’ll just react however I see fit when he actually DOES something that I need to react to.
I expect his administration to be pretty horrible. It is not at all difficult for me to understand how many folk might view just about EVERYTHING through the prism of our country being so horrible as to elect such a horrible person. For me, it takes considerable ongoing effort to maintain my blinders.
Thank you Dinsdale, I feel pretty much the same way.
I do love the humor involved with insulting “that guy” every possible chance, it seems better than anger. I can see how it can be a pain in other forums though.
And then it often devolves into the other endless argument of whether Garland acted too slowly.
I’m almost ready to ask the mods to create one thread in P&E that is solely to discuss Trump in negative terms. Rules would be
Discussing Trump objectively outside of the thread is ok. E.g “What do people think of Trump sending the Pacific Fleet to sit between mainland China and Taiwan?” I think it will antagonize the Chinese and we are one oopsies from either side before we are in a real war."
Derogatory comments outside of that thread are warnings. Similar rules to this board apply. You can say Trump is acting like an idiot for sending the Pacific Fleet but you can’t say Trump is an idiot. Obviously some discretion allowed from the mods regarding weasel words and getting as close to the line as possible but if someone calls Trump the Cheeto Rapist, no it’s not a friendly reminder. It’s a warning.
Inside that Thread, it is a mini-Pit. All Pit rules (or lack thereof) apply.
That can just be here in the Pit. No need to confuse things by putting it in P&E.
My thought was in P&E since a member would gravitate there to discuss Trump. But if the mods get on board with my idea, don’t let me stand in the way of where y’all want to put it.
And people would likely just end up eating infraction after infraction until the mods gave up; I’ve seen it happen on other boards. A great many people are too terrified and angry to be scared by a moderator into lying in Trump’s favor - which such a rule is, in practice. Since actual objective discussion of Trump and the Republicans in general is highly insulting.
People are more afraid of death than they are of moderators.
I’m slightly exaggerating, but “no criticism of our dear leader (except for one thread)” sounds like the kind of fascist regime we’re hoping to avoid.
There can be criticism. My example even had it. The thread would be for people that want to do nothing but write derogatory insults and wild accusations that don’t contribute anything to a rational discussion.
