NO ONE is at any risk in America of being arrested or punished by any government for being an athiest. There were self-declared athiests in America throughout its entire history, and none of them were ever persecuted. The ‘Tea Party’ is bloody well crawling with athiests. The libertarians have a high percentage of athiest members. The bloody National Review has a number of athiests among its writers. Reason magazine is very popular on the right, and it is avowedly anti-religious. Christopher Hitchens is a very respected figure on the right, and he’s not just an athiest, he’s on a mission to discredit religion.
The worst thing you have to fear from a ‘Tea Party’ government is a lot of typical idiocy - battles over prayer in school and an attempt to further restrict abortion. That’s bad enough. But if you think they’re going to start rounding up the likes of you and putting you against the wall, then you really need to pop your little liberal echo chamber bubble and start trying to acquaint yourself with reality.

Obviously, if the Tea party came to power, there would be a bloodbath in which the atheist members of the Tea party would be systematically murdered by the fundy Christian TP members, and vice versa, in an attempt to make sure those hated atheists (and hated Christians) don’t destroy the ideological purity of the Party, as seen by those two mutually exclusive wings. The rest of us could stand on the sidelines, out of the line of fire, while The Tea Party gets whittled down to two or three non-Xian, non-atheist loonies.
