I pit Trump's Campaign ads

Not sure if this deserves its own thread, but Trump’s “911 recording-no one will come” campaign ads are fn stupid. I really can’t believe anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together would think anything like this is light years within possibility.

Playing on the fears of the ignorant. I guess we were expecting this, but I am trying to envision what might be coming from them in October. Zombie apocalypse? Every time the “I’m DT and I approve this message” comes up, all I hear is “I’m DT and I’m an assclip”.

I mean the Lincoln Project ads are pretty brutal, but I don’t sense they are comparable to these.

That’s his base.

Yes, I can’t figure out why anyone thinks the president (Trump, Biden or whoever) has any control over local policing.

Dear Leader controls everything. Except the virus response he takes no responsibility for.

The latest one takes a big ol’ page from LifeAlert’s ‘scare the elders’ advertising scheme, with a little old lady frantically dialing 911 as an intruder makes his way into her home while her TV is bleating about 911 centers being shut down.

At least she’s using a cordless phone instead of the corded rotary shown in that ridiculous “get your plump grandchild off the sofa” PSA.

Have you been reading about Portland? Clearly, Trump has far, far too much control over local policing.

Too early to tell about Biden but I have hopes.

Playing on peoples’ fears is a basic page out of the autocrat playbook. Fear is a basic “lizard brain” emotion-- it’s not necessarily controlled by higher intelligence or common sense. trump is trying to hold on to, or get back, the white moderate suburbanite vote by trying to convince them that scary brown rioters are going to take over their towns, and only trump can stop them. It’s about the only thing he has left, because he can’t run on the economy anymore, or how he beat the pandemic with his leadership.

Sending unidentified federal “secret police” into Portland and possibly other cities to brutally suppress rioters and peaceful protesters alike is the other side of the coin to his ridiculous “You won’t be safe in Biden’s America” ads. trump is trying to show that he will do what it takes to stop those horrible brown commie Antifa terrorists, and Biden won’t. Hopefully these tactics backfire on him in spectacular fashion.

Trump’s campaign ads are comedy gold! Don’t Pit them!

Laugh if you want, but don’t dismiss the trump team’s tactics or underestimate their possible effectiveness. Just because they don’t work on you, or the majority of reasonably intelligent people, doesn’t mean they won’t be effective enough to tip the balance to another electoral college squeaker. Can’t get complacent.

I should have been clearer! Correct me if I’m wrong, but local police forces are not hired, fired or funded by the Feds. So it makes no sense to say Biden would abolish local police. Not that making sense is a prerequisite for any of these yokels’ belief systems.

…and Trump just can’t extend himself much farther than his base.*

*Stormy Daniels is my Cite.

Among the many things he doesn’t grasp, irony looms large.

Those scary ads showing what could happen in “Biden’s America?” Just a friendly reminder, those are showing actual footage of Trump’s America.

Yes, that’s the bitter irony.

But it’s not trump’s fault! It’s because of the radicalization of the Democrat party, leading to commie Antifa rioters causing uprisings in badly-run Democrat cities because they hate the “SILENT MAJORITY!”. Without a “LAW & ORDER!” president like trump, things will get much worse.

trump’s base will buy that, and trump’s hoping he can get just enough others on board to tip the balance.

We are on the same page, we just didn’t know it. Thank you for so gracefully getting us here.

Indeed, Biden can’t abolish police. He has clearly said that many times. He does state he supports meaningful reform, which is just what I want. Substantial reform, unstintingly enforced.

AIUI, the feds give some grants to local police and sheriffs for specific efforts like anti-drug campaigns but the amounts aren’t huge in a dept’s budget. They would miss it but could adjust if the feds yanked it. The one that has been harmful, IMHO, is giving excess military gear and armored vehicles, which has led to abuses and the degrading of the image of officers serving and protecting, but I digress from the OP’s ?.

Trump’s control over police, as we are seeing it play out now, is, I think beyond the bounds that any other administration would have been horrified to breach. Who can stop him? Only the courts. Hold a good thought.

Actually…

The irony kinda burns on this one.

wouldn’t work with me, I probably should post a sign 5 feet inside my door stating intruders will be shot. If it were outside, it would be an attractive nusaince. I have no qualms about shooting an intruder invading my house - in a him-or-me situation, it isn’t going to be me.

Well aren’t you the internet tough guy. We were talking about Trump’s ads, not how bad-ass we all are.

One more data point supporting my thesis that most gun owners are murderers in search of a motive.

Unfair (yes, I know it is the pit).

I do not own guns, I have never allowed them in my home. I actively support legal gun control.

That said, I think your accusation is outrageous. Very, very few gun owners act in that way. Get a grip. What you said is no less hateful than any other bigoted belief.

BTW, there is no ‘data point’ possible in what you said.
