There; I said it.
One and done for Mr. Trump.
Hell, I’m not even sure he’ll actually finish serving one term. But I am certain that he will not serve a second term as POTUS.
Who agrees? Who disagrees?

I’m sure he’ll be bored with the job very quickly. Hell, he said in a tweet that the election was “a long time ago.”
Hmmm… maybe his time sense is like dog years, so for him, one year is like seven years. Okay, so carrying that out, four years is 48 months, so in 6.8 months, he will have served four dog-years as President. In 13.7 months, he will have served eight dog-years as President and won’t be able to run again. I like it.
Trump won’t make it 2 years. I see the headlines with the words “Trump” and “natural causes” in the same sentence.
I see “Russia”, “conflict of interest”, and “impeachment” in the headlines, followed by “Pence has been doing all the actual work anyway” in the text.
Why bother with an impeachment? The Vice-President and a majority of the Cabinet can invoke the 25th, and declare the man unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.
(Which appears to be true already.)
The Electoral College hasn’t voted yet. I’m holding out an unreasonable sliver of hope. If shit keeps going sideways as it has been, however, I give the whole thing 8 months before Pence is swearing in.
I never thought for a moment he would want to have a second term.
And the fact he has no positions or ideology means he has nothing to achieve beyond having won the first time. In Your Face ! He confounded all who came at him, he forced then all to knuckle and say uncle, he has made the perfect match between America as it is now and the president who embodies it. He is the epitome of TV-Culture, boastful, selfloving, materialist, anti-natural, vapid brutality.
He is the pleasanter face of ressentiment. And the people behind him, who are still his tools, serving at his rather capricious pleasure, are the nastier side.
Still better than Hillary.
I agree. Dying in office, being so bored he doesn’t want to run again, or getting impeached are all possible. In addition, he’s already 70, and doesn’t seem to be especially healthy for his age. I envision him alive and coherent (well, as coherent as he’s ever been) after 4 years, but so obviously doddering that another four years is out of the question.
Another plausible scenario is that he makes it through the next 4 years in reasonable condition and wants to serve another 4 years, but is sufficiently unpopular that he can’t get re-elected.
I do think he’ll be a one term (or less) president for one of these reasons.
He might also succeed at declaring himself “president for life” and staying in office until he dies at 94, of course. (I’m joking, but it is a grimmer joke than I’d like it to be.)
Out of curiosity, how certain were you that he wouldn’t serve a first term?
Given that I didn’t expect him to even make it out of the primaries, I don’t feel confident enough to say “I am certain” about anything when it comes to his prospects of re-election.
Apart from the fact that he will be 74, which is getting a bit old for the strenuous campaigning - he’s in show business. He understands that you don’t run a successful TV series into the ground. You finish it after a reasonable time, but while it is still popular, preferably near the top of its popularity.
There is no way he will do 8 years. It is also easier for a Republican successor to be elected after Trump’s 1st term. The “8 years and done” Presidential party curse is strong. Trump would want to have a Republican successor for bragging rights.
Well, you’re the Fuc**r who predicted he’d win the first time!
I’m not about to argue with you now!!!
Trump disagree ! He just said on TV to he going serve 2 terms This was on World news tonight . channel 5 nbc
This was largely an ego trip for him, and he’ll realizes that the president doesn’t have nearly as much power as he seems to think. He’ll get bored, or disillusioned, and move on to something else.
That being said, I do want him to finish out all four years of his first term. Why? Two words: President Pence. shudder
I’m surprised, given Trump’s penchant for destroying his opponents predictions about him, that people still say things like this.
You say destroying, I say escaping.
You are are quite the optimist.
Suppose he loses in a close election (that being the most likely kind).
Then he says it was rigged.
Next step, he recognizes alternate electoral college delegations from states he narrowly lost. This isn’t an issue today because Obama deeply supports democracy. Trump? Maybe not. Probably not.
In a presidential republic, ultimate authority usually resides in the the military. Here is where they stand today:
Total respect!’ Troops show their love for Trump at Army-Navy game; check out the video, photos
Going back to normal democracy is certainly possible but far from a done deal.
He was lousy being a candidate in 2000, and in other elections; got it just better now, but you are ignoring the dictum that past performance is not a guarantee of the future one, this is not the election anymore and he is just getting busy on not getting prepared.
The OP rather famously* saw Trump’s victory coming a year before it happened.
*You know, around these Dopey parts.
In this case I will have to disagree, I did see the lapping and smooches that the military gave to Bush the lesser, I’m not pessimistic that the Military will act the proper way when a Democrat gets elected in the future.
World News Tonight is ABC isn’t it? The channel 5 reference isn’t terribly helpful, as networks have varied affiliate channel numbers throughout the US.
I’m betting on less than half a term. Then charisma-challenged Pence can get his ass handed to him by Corey Booker.
