I rarely like _____ but I do like _____: Exceptions to the rule

I rarely like Rage Rock (i.e. sounds like nu-metal without the progressiveness or melody,) but I like band The Black Maria and the album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by MCR (The Black Parade is not rage rock.)

I’m with you on that one.

I rarely like gory movies, but I do like Silence of the Lambs.

I rarely like red meat, but I do like hamburger.

I rarely like small rodents (mice, rats, etc.), but I do like my hamster. (For some reason she’s cute and all other rodents are gross or creepy.)

I rarely like tequila, but I do like margaritas.

I rarely like bananas, but I do like banana bread or muffins.

I rarely like westerns, but I do like the 3:10 to Yuma remake with Christian Bale and Russell Crowe.

I rarely like anime, but I do like Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I rarely like Will Ferrell but I do like Talladega Nights.

I rarely like Adam Sandler, but I do like Spanglish.

I rarely like graphic novels but I do like Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series (and a far lesser known one about the Trojan War by Eric Shanower).

raw tomatoes… ceviche
bananas… plantains

I was going to say that I rarely like country, but then my exceptions list kept growing and growing.

Dolly Pardon
Kenny Rogers
Loretta Lynn
Sugarland
Bonnie Raitt

I think I actully do like country.

I’m going to cheat…

I rarely like musical theatre, but I loved Topsy Turvy.

I despise the Toronto Maple Leafs, but I was a big Mats Sundin fan.
I rarely like boy band music, but I do like “The Hardest Thing” by 98 Degrees. Also “Back for Good” by Take That

I rarely like coconut, but I love macaroons (not any other coconut baked good, just macaroons).

My fiancee rarely likes contemporary rock or rap, but he loves Kid Rock’s Cowboy.

I rarely like Cindy Lauper, but I like “All through the Night.”
I rarely like cauliflower, but I like it in Indian curry dishes.

I hate raw onions with a passion but I like the flavor they add when cooked in dishes. I sometimes even get a burger with no onions and a side of onion rings, go figure. To me, raw onion flavor lingers too long and overpowers all the other flavors. Cooking calms it way down.

(bolding mine)
Please tell me you’re talking about Mexican ceviche

I rarely like westerns, but I do like Gary Cooper.

I rarely like biographies, but Peter Brazaitis’s You Belong In A Zoo is one of my favorites. Brazaitis describes his life as a zookeeper in a reptile house, and there’s never a dull moment. In addition to cleaning up the cages and dealing with the public, he discovers a method of sexing crocodiles (short version: stick your finger where the sun don’t shine), captures a missing king cobra, risks his life in a jungle trying to collect giant frogs, makes enemies in the fur and leather trade… never a dull moment. Really. Just read it.

I rarely like Rap but think that Grand Master Flash is a genius.
I rarely like Country music but really enjoy Glen Campbell(Dont tell anyone )
I rarely like Lee Marvin movies but think that Point Blank is one of the best films ever.

Me too.

I rarely like Nightwish, but I do like their song The Islander.

Along with many others, I rarely like rap, either, but my exception is “White and Nerdy” (which I would have expected someone else to mention by now).

I’m not sure that counts, seeing as how the song is a parody of “Riding Dirty”. You might as well list “All About The Pentiums” or “Amish Paradise”. Those songs are all about the funny lyrics, not the beat or the lyrical prowess.
