I’ve known for years that my dentist has most – if not all – of the members of the D.C. United soccer team as clients, and while I was in the waiting room this morning Marco Etcheverry walked into the office. 
Of course I didn’t recognize him, because I know nothing about soccer, but I guessed who he was from the receptionist’s conversation with him: also, I knew about the D.C. United thing, and when I heard her introduce him to someone else in the office I thought that his name sounded vaguely familiar. I was pretty sure that he was a soccer player, so I looked him up on line (it took a few minutes because at first I spelled his last name wrong; also, I was thrown off by the fact that there is no “Marco” on the United’s current roster) and finally figured it out.
This sighting means nothing to me, but it might mean something to another Doper out there in soccer-loving land, so I figured I’d share. It’s also my very first time seeing anyone even remotely famous in person.
