I saw my first new nickel today.

Anyone else seen one yet?

They are pretty cool. There will be two minted before they go back to the old.

It’s only the reverse that will be new.

I bet they do two more next year.

Found one in some change and thought it was Canadian.

Do you know something the mint doesn’t know?

From http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?action=press_release&ID=490&formSearchString=nickels&formBool=AND&formYear=ALL&group=1

You do know that I do this for a living?

Good lord.

They are one and the same.

You really do this for a living???

And you don’t realize we are talking about the same nickels??

Please notice the release dates…spring 2004 and fall 2004…

Does that help?

Reeder. I would not attempt to tell you how to give facts about Bush. Just because you(and it would appear I can’t seem to find an online story about the additional new nickels that will come out in 2005 doesn’t mean they aren’t in the works. The many new potential designs have been in the coin press for a few weeks now. If I could find an online cite, I would give it. But I can’t.

The designs have been submitted by the Mint to the Fine Arts Commission for their final selection. There is often quite a bit of back-and-forth between them before things are final.

But, believe me, there will be two different nickels in 2004, and two totally different ones in 2005. Maybe even one more in 2006 before they resume Monticello.

That’s why I’m in the coin biz. Just to help people out. You’re welcome.

“Back to you, Chet”

…and another thing…

Lexington BBQ doesn’t hold a candle to Eastern Carolina Q.

Ketchup! Feh! I speet on your ketchup.

New nickels? I haven’t even seen my first Michigan quarter yet, and they’re already doing Florida! :frowning:

I’m busy with quarters. Come back for me later, nickels.

Saw one about a week ago in my change without realizing what it was but quickly deduced what it was without reading its inscription. I’m SMRT or something.

I found one in my pocket change this week. Mr. Toes was so happy when he saw it. I mean strangely ecstatic. It was like he turned into an 8-year-old. He repeated “Can I keep it?” over and over until I handed it to him and did a little happy dance.

I’m afraid he’s going to start calling it “my Preciousssss”.

But it was uber-cute.

Anything has got to help. The US has not had a good-looking coin since the Ike dollar. I liked the ‘Eagle on the Moon’ reverse.

The Louisiana Purchase (1803) garnered us around 900,000 square miles for 15 million dollars, or slightly less than that nickel per acre of land. It better be a good lookin’ nickel considering what it represents.

Anyone hear the rumors about what they’re talking about with the Sacky? Take off Sac., and replace her each year with a new president, in order of taking office (I wonder if Cleveland gets two appearances). Yup, just what the dollar coin needs - greater collectibility to keep it out of circulation. (Actually, that’s *exactly * what it needs - I hate dollar coins.)
