I shaved my head

Before & after shots and some bonus camping pictures can be found here .

I shaved Mrs. Dewgrrl’s head a couple of weeks ago, but she decided to wimp out at the 1/8" guard. :dubious:

We decided to take the plunge for our camping road trip this summer. Much easier and cooler to deal with no hair than hair, even short dykey hair.

My head has much more topography than I thought it did. It is also a lot colder in my office’s AC than I thought it would be. I’ve also learned that buffs are fun, and warm, though I’m hoping that they live up more to their promise of helping you keep cool.

That’s a honey of a dew, grrl!

Welcome to the land of the shorn! You’ll find that your sensitivity to cold and breezes (shiver) will fade pretty quickly- I have no trouble with snowy weather now, personally.

If you decide to go all the way, I highly recommend the Gillette Mach 3, as will other shaven dopers. The only drawback is the expense, but I find I can make each razor last 2-3 weeks… and I have to shave most of my face, which you won’t have to deal with.

Watch out for sunburn- you might want to look into something like ScalpSpray, or any of the new aerosol or pump-based sunblocks. They’re based on alcohol, so they’ll dry your scalp out a bit if you’re not careful, but trust me when I say you won’t want a scalpburn.

It really really suits you.

Thanks

I doubt I’ll be going down to blade level, even though the simple act of turning my sand-papery head while laying it on my pillow is quite an ordeal, but I appreciate the tips.

I have found that it really needs to be a bit longer or gone to be comfortable laying on anything. Second the Mach3, as Lightnin’ knew I would. The sun is no longer your friend. Hats and sunscreen always. But it looks good.

Yeah, it does suit you. When I shaved my head smooth it freaked me out for a couple of days and I kept touching it. After 3 days it went a bit stubbly and wasn’t so good. Back to normal after a week or so. Then Mrs 62 decided it wasn’t the look for me so I’m back to a No. 1

Heh, no-one else seems to beleive me when I say I’m so much more comfortable with my hair chopped off.

I just wish I could relive the feeling that one summer I shaved my hair short for the first time

You look really good.

I’ve always wanted to shave my head, but I probably never will.

Another head shaver chiming in. Looks good on you. I however don’t agree with the Mach3. I have found the Venus works much better. It is a little more flexable so it works on my dome better.

It looks good on you, really.
OK, I was honest and I made nice and I really meant it.

Now, How much you want for the dog??? NICeeeeeee pooch!!

Emma G. Princess Pea is about to be shaved as well. She picked up every burr within 2 miles of our campsite, but thankfully only 2 ticks. She is soooo much cuter when she’s shaggy like that, but she just gets too hot.

WHAT?!?!?

No way. You’re so close yet so far from a real head shave. Get out the blade and take the rest off. Come on. Go the extra mile…

… hippy.

If you MUST know :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a mole on the back of my head, the same color as the rest of my scalp, and it turns out that it has a few hairs growing out of it. Sooooo, that is one rationalization for not going all the way with a blade. I’d end up with a fuzzy mole sticking out of the back of my head, and for whatever reason that doesn’t sound appealing. Truth be told, I’m lazy, and I don’t want to have to keep up with razoring it. I’m going to have enough trouble just remembering to pack the clippers and the 1/8" guard to giver ourselves trims every couple of weeks.

I like it–good on you.
