I shaved today

Don’t really know why. I have had a full beard for 5 uninterrupped years now. Shaved for my 20th reunion, before that my sisters wedding. I don’t like the way I look clean-shaven, others do. Stubble feels funny, harsh. I will keep it off for about a month then decide if/when to keep shaving or start a new beard. Any info from fellow Dopers would be welcome. MTS

Heathen.

I don’t see myself shaving my beard. I’ve only got my wife to impress, and she loves it. I’d say start back as soon as possible, but then I could be biased.

Ooh. I love the feel of a cleanshaven man!! (I once walked up to a random guy and rubbed his face, because he looked so smooth. I think he wanted to have me put away.)
Hehe. I also love the feel of my own legs right after I shave. Mmm…smooth…

Yeah. Smoother is better.

I, OTOH, decided to grow a beard. I haven’t had one since high school (yes, I went through puberty at a young age and grew a full beard at one point in HS). I don’t know how long I can stand it. I’m not a beard person, but psycat likes it so… But, it’s so…scratchy! But, I decided to grow it after watching gladiator, so I have to keep it at least until I can get my Caesar cut and see how that looks.

I haven’t shaved in about 3 weeks, but I suppose I should…I’m getting quite unkempt-looking. Maybe around the end of the winter break…

I’ve grown my beard back because I just don’t like shaving. I haven’t shaved since October.

Yay! I love clean shaven guys, it’s all soft and smooth and yummy, like the feeling right after I shave my legs. I just love it. Don’t grow your beard back, at least I think they’re icky, but that’s just me.

You’re more motivated than me, Booker. I haven’t shaved my legs in about four days. I’m starting to look positively European.

FWIW, I like a well-maintained beard. Length doesn’t matter, as long as it’s kept well.

I love a beard, as long as it’s clean and well-kept. My hubby wears one. Of course, he’s gorgeous clean-shaven, too, and it does feel yummy, but only RIGHT after he’s shaved. I can’t stand any stubble at all. Irritates me too bad when smooching!

I have worn a beard of one sort or another for about 25 years, because I’m not real big on blood sacrifices.
My wife has never seen my face naked.
These days I keep it pretty short and well shaped and I do scrape my neck a couple of times a week for appearances sake.
But I don’t think I’ll ever shave it all off.
I hate shaving.

We need a smilie with a beard.

I keep a goatee and mustache to cover unattractive scars caused by a losing joust with a curb ten years ago.

But I shave my cheeks and neck every day, and I’ve been attempting not to be stodgy by trying aftershave other than Aqua Velva.

And y’know what? Nothing works. Old clubman aftershaves stink. Aspen burns horribly. Drakkar chokes. Old Spice may as well be sulphur paste for the irritation. That’s the main problem I’ve found; virtually every aftershave I’ve found makes me feel like I’m blushing like a Senator.

But dear, sweet Aqua Velva is refreshing, cooling, and smells clean and subtly masculine.

Anybody got decent aftershaves to recommend? Why is there just something about an Aqua Velva man?

For my own face, I’m with Roachman the proper name for my style of facial hair is a van dyke, but folks seem to understand it better if I just say I have Robin Hood like facial hair.

I do like rubbing a smoothly shaven cheek against my lady’s cheek, (or else where, but that’s a different forum), but the for most part, I prefer the way I look with facial hair, so I keep it.

I used to go clean shaven for a while annually, just to remind myself of what I look like without it. Haven’t done that in about a decade now.

That’s because boys your age don’t have beards…

I have never had a beard, but I always have a goatee. I have to shave for interviews and stuff, and I HATE the way I look completely clean shaven. (Main reason I hate my People Pages picture!!)

Clean shaven. Whenever I go several days without shaving I get circular patterns of hair which resemble crop circles imprinted on my cheeks (not my ass). I’ve never had the patience to grow sideburns/beard out far enough past that point. I never have liked the look of a mustache or goatee.

I shave once or twice a week. My facial hair is lightly colored and doesn’t cover my face fully. I once went six months w/o shaving (or getting a haircut - I was single and worked at night) and I looked like the guy your parents warned you to stay away from.

Why hasn’t someone invented a Nair-type product for men that won’t set one’s face ablaze?

::shudders:: Wonderful mental picture, Justin, just superb!!

Unkempt? THAT is umkempt? Have you gone through puberty or not?

I love facial hair, as long as it doesn’t look like you haven’t washed your face in a couple days.

Robin

I like day old scruffiness on my guy, but thats just me!
