If there was a thread called “POST PICTURES OF YOUR S/O!” and I posted a picture of her in it and someone said, “eh, she doesn’t do anything for me” (which I really, really doubt anyone would ever do,) I would be annoyed at the guy for saying it - but that is NOT the same situation we had here.
This is a case of a guy, in a thread which had NOTHING TO DO with people’s girlfriends or boyfriends, bringing up a totally personal and irrelevant issue, in an extraordinarily hurtful and not to mention racist manner, directed at me after I criticized SOMEONE ELSE’S SPELLING.
I really fail to see what the point is in bringing up the whole “you should expect this to happen if you bring up pictures of your SO.”
Is it common practice for people to insult the looks of other people’s girlfriends on online forums? Out of nowhere? In a racist and hurtful manner? In threads that have nothing to do with the S/Os to begin with? In response to insulting someone’s fucking SPELLING?
Think of it this way. If you put a picture of your wife and kids on your desk at your office at work, would it be “okay” or “expected” or something that you should “just get over” if someone randomly walked by and said, “your wife looks like an ugly Asian cunt!”?
That’s the equivalent of the situation here. The SDMB is not a meat market or some lowbrow website. This is an online community where we implicitly put our trust in everyone else to act like human beings and not animals. I have every right to be upset about what happened and I can’t see any possible motive for saying that I shouldn’t, other than to claim some kind of moral high ground.
One other thing: if saying “retarded Asian who…etc etc etc” isn’t racism, then what the hell is? What was the point of saying “Asian” other than to be racist? If she was white, would he have said “retarded white chick who…” I think not, and to suggest that he might have is totally clutching at straws. If it’s true that he also said something about a “sideways vagina” in some post before he edited it, that’s also a very stupid RACIST stereotype.
I actually don’t find her attractive. But tastes are subjective.
I do think you’re displaying a lack of discipline with the ranting though. If you just said, “my girlfriend doesn’t have anything to do with this, and you’re obviously just trying to get a rise out of me.” he would have looked like an utter douche and no one would be on his side. Instead you flew off the handle and made a *bigger *issue out of it.
It’s a new day. Let me say it now. "My girlfriend doesn’t have anything to do with this, and he is just trying to get a rise out of me. He succeeded, for about 24 hours. Now it’s over. I don’t care anymore. I’m going to move on. I have more important things to do than waste my time thinking about this.

Actually, gonzomax, I’m sorry I was so insulting to you. I think your posts usually DO make sense, despite what I said, and honestly, while the punctuation errors are annoying, they’re far from incomprehensible, and I’m willing to overlook them. Oh, sheesh. The defining factor of long-time SDMB posters is literacy. We mostly can read and write. Someone who can’t be bothered to write correctly is mostly disdained around here.
It’s perfectly apparent that both ralph124c and gonzomax are capable of writing correctly. That they can’t be bothered says more about them, and more about what they think of their fellow posters, than it does about the rest of us.
