I think december has Jungle Fever

Well, they can all be contracted in Funky Town.

Paging Dr. Funkenstein, paging Dr. Funkenstein.

Uh, nurse, could you make his funk the P-funk. He wants to get funked up.

Hmmm. Sometimes I capitalize black and sometimes I don’t. Yes, I know I should be more consistent, but I don’t really pay it much mind. I’m looking for other things in what folks say.

This needs to be framed.

Its just sniffle so … beautiful!

Stuffy, anytime after July 3, 2002 I will buy you a drink.

And here I was hopin for some naked Halle Berry action in here and all I get is some crap about some guy on a message board?!
and yeah jungle fever is black/white lovin regardless of the sex.

Indeed I do. (Actually she’s my cousin’s wife.)

You would love her, too, if you knew her. Everyone does. She is kind of a superwoman, but at the same time quite modest and terrifically nice, considerate, sweet, a concerned doctor, former Professor of English, author of several books, a great cook… There are few human beings who can match her qualities.

If you want to think my feelings about her are bad in some way, that’s your concern.

A recurring theme in my posts is to decry the common attack of calling some conservative a racist. Activist David Horowitz calls this practice “racial McCarthyism.” He claims it’s commonly done, particularly on campuses.

Does racial McCarthyism really exist? I offer this thread as Exhibit A.

Umm…december? You were the first one to blatantly call someone a racist in this thread, you dumb fuck.

There was a thread in GD once a long time ago asking why blacks are overwhelmingly Democratic, even when a large portion of them hold views that could be considered conservative.

I offer december as Reason A.

Although it should probably be noted that it is most often you claiming that someone was called racist for being conservative rather than someone actually calling conservatives racist.

I find it interesting that you speak so highly of Horowitz who long ago stopped being an “activist” to take up the game of “self-promoting entrepeneur.” Among his hundreds of statements over the last dozen or so years have been a few accurate observations (and college campuses do tend to have their share of PC jerks, just as corporations have their share of anti-PC jerks), but he has provided no substantive input to race discussion in America since the late 1980s, at best.

For you to wander around crying “demonization by the Left” while deliberately ignoring “demonization by the Right” and crying “McCarthyism” at so many opportunities (while defending the absurd notion of the Great Communist Conspiracy in so many others) is sadly risible.

december: *A recurring theme in my posts is to decry the common attack of calling some conservative a racist. *

Which sits rather oddly with another “recurring theme” of yours, namely calling some liberal a racist. IIRC, it was you who accused Democratic Senators of racism for opposing the Supreme Court nomination of Clarence Thomas, and you’re constantly complaining that it’s racist to be what you consider insufficiently critical of black leaders and the black population in assessing the problems of blacks in America. In other words, you seem to think that accusing someone of racism is a bad thing only when the “accusee” is conservative.

Kimstu-in december’s world, conservatives can do no wrong. Pinochet got a bad rap. Ashcroft is being demonized unfairly. Reagan was the best president we ever had.

It’s sad, really.

A black Reagan supporter. What’s next, Mormon members of NORML?

Fair comment, Kimstu. The coments you quote are my attempt to help liberals understand what it feels like to be “racist-bated.” But, those accusations aren’t taken seriously.

E.g., note these comments

Belowjob “A black Reagan supporter. What’s next, Mormon members of NORML?”

rjung "‘Racist Democrat’? Is that anything like ‘Jews for Jesus’?

There’s a widespread belief that liberals cannot be racists, while conservatives are likely to be racists. So, my effort to show that one could equally well point the other way is futile. It has no force. It’s as feeble as it would have been to call Richard Nixon a Communist Sympathizer.

Oh come on now, December. I wouldn’t call Reagan conservative. Boobish, henpecked, and lazy. But not conservative.

When he was running against him, Bush Sr. called Reagan’s plan “voodoo economics.” Bush was absolutely right.

But Reagan won us the Cold War! Single-handedly!

Decades of tyranny ended by Reagan’s strong, “Mr. Gorbachev-TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!”

It doesn’t help that the conservatives repeatedly prove this point…

“Every lesbian spearchucker in this country is hoping I get defeated.”
–Bob Dornan, R-Orange County, CA

“You needed that job and you were the best qualified. But they had to give it to a minority because of a racial quota.”
–Jesse Helms’ campaign commercial, 1990

“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”
–Rush Limbaugh, to black caller

“…every one of the bastards that are out for legalizing marijuana is Jewish.”
–Richard Nixon

“Whatcha listenin’ to? Some rap?”
–George W. Bush to Terry Neal, black reporter for the Washington Post

Actually, rjung, Jews and lesbians are not races.

More to the point, it’s noteworthy that you equate alleged non-PC statements with racism, rather than look at how people behave.

I heard Senator Byrd use the term “White Nigger” on TV last year. Three witnesses (all Democrats) said they heard Hillary call someone a “Fucking Jew Bastard.” I don’t like that kind of talk, but I don’t think Hillary is anti-Semitic, because her actions aren’t ant-semitic.

Frankly I’m not even sure whether liberals make fewer non-PC statements than conservatives do. It’s more that Conservaitves get dinged for them ad infinitem, but liberals don’t.

What context was it used in December?

For example, it is used by Elvis Costello in his song “Oliver’s army”

Is Costello being racist? No.

Is Senator Byrd being racist? I couldn’t tell you because you have failed to supply a full quote or context.
Mirabile Dictu.

Well, Byrd isn’t exactly known for being anti-racist…so he’s got something there.

I am not arguing that he is. I am pointing out that Demcrats also have said things which sound very bad, but they weren’t called racists.
