Seriously, I remember that I used to see thread about DoperFests, and references to them, but these were always after the fact. How/where do I keep abreast of any upcoming get-togethers in my area (hint, hint: Boston)?

I’d suggest doing a search every so often in MPSIMS for fests in the city you’d like to attend.
Generally speaking, any announced dopefest is open season for dopers who want to go. Depending on the event, though, you may find yourself at odds with getting there: for example, if you don’t have $500 for tickets to a Tibet dopefest; or, if you’re under 21 and the thing’s at a bar.
There’s a dopefest June 19 in Gettysburg, and I somehow doubt that anyone would stage a formal protest were you present. I’m betting you could probably catch the train down, and one of the locals might be willing to pick you up from there.
A little closer to you than Gettysburg might be NY. DaveW0071’s RibFest is happening in June. If you go have a look in MPSIMS, you’ll find a thread - or search “Ribfest”.

We just had a New England mini-fest a few weeks ago at tanookie and parallax’s house. Look for threads in MPSIMS. You can also do a search for Boston Dopers in yahoo groups. There’s a list that you are welcome to join. It’s open to anyone in the general area. Actually it’s open to anyone. We’re really not that fussy. We’re also not that vocal or active. Perky is pretty much right out. But several folks have expressed an interest in doing more stuff this summer. One suggestion was a trip to Salem (no relation) to do the witchy thing. Email’s in my profile if you need more info. So there it is. Your official invitation to any and all Boston/New England Dopefests. Accent not required.
